Job Summary
Cityfurnish is looking for a hands-on, delivery-focused Finance & Accounts Manager to take complete ownership of the Finance & Accounts function and lead a team of finance executives. This is not a bookkeeping role it is a managerial position for a professional who can run financial accounting, statutory compliance, taxation, audits, treasury, budgeting, MIS, and internal financial controls independently, while acting as a trusted business partner to the AVP and Founder.
The role carries direct accountability for the accuracy and integrity of the company's books, the health of its cash flow and working capital, the timeliness of every statutory filing, and the closure of every audit without material findings. As Cityfurnish scales across multiple cities and business units, this person will be expected to build scalable finance processes, strengthen internal controls, drive ERP-led automation, and develop a high-performing finance team converting finance from a reporting function into a genuine driver of business decisions.
Success in this role means the AVP/Founder can rely on this person to run day-to-day finance operations end-to-end, escalate only what truly requires leadership judgment, and consistently deliver clean, on-time, audit-ready numbers.
Key Responsibilities
A. Financial Accounting
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end book closing process end-to-end, ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
- Review the General Ledger for accuracy, completeness, and correct classification of transactions.
- Review and approve journal entries, including accruals, provisions, and adjustment entries.
- Maintain the Fixed Asset Register, including capitalization, depreciation schedules, and asset verification.
- Ensure timely and accurate bank reconciliations across all operating accounts.
- Perform Balance Sheet reconciliations and maintain schedules for every line item.
- Review the Trial Balance for accuracy prior to finalization.
- Prepare and finalize accurate Financial Statements (P&L;, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement) in line with applicable accounting standards.
B. Accounts Payable
- Oversee verification of vendor bills against POs, GRNs, and contracted terms before processing.
- Manage the end-to-end vendor payment cycle, ensuring payments are accurate and released on schedule.
- Monitor vendor ageing and proactively resolve overdue or disputed balances.
- Ensure periodic vendor account reconciliations and resolve variances with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Review and approve employee expense claims and reimbursements for policy compliance.
- Ensure correct TDS deduction and verification on all applicable vendor and expense payments.
C. Accounts Receivable
- Oversee accurate and timely customer invoicing in line with contracts and subscription/rental terms.
- Monitor collections and drive timely realization of outstanding receivables.
- Prepare and review outstanding/ageing analysis and drive action plans to reduce overdue balances.
- Ensure periodic customer account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure revenue is recognized accurately and in line with applicable accounting standards and business policy.
D. Treasury Management
- Prepare and monitor short-term and long-term cash flow plans to ensure business liquidity.
- Manage day-to-day fund management, including inflows, outflows, and inter-account transfers.
- Own and strengthen banking relationships, including facilities, documentation, and day-to-day coordination.
- Track and manage loan/credit facility drawdowns, repayments, covenants, and renewals.
- Drive working capital management, optimizing the cash conversion cycle across payables, receivables, and inventory/assets.
E. Budgeting & MIS
- Lead preparation of the annual budget in coordination with department and business-unit heads.
- Prepare rolling forecasts and revise projections based on business performance.
- Prepare Budget vs. Actual analysis with explicit variance commentary for leadership.
- Conduct department-wise and business-unit-wise cost analysis to identify efficiency opportunities.
- Prepare profitability analysis at company, business-unit, and city/category level.
- Prepare periodic cash flow reports for leadership review.
- Own monthly management reporting (MIS) with accurate, timely, decision-ready insights.
- Prepare Board reports and investor-facing financial packs as required.
- Track and report finance and business KPIs on a regular cadence.
F. Taxation
- Own end-to-end GST compliance — computation, return filing, input tax credit reconciliation, and reporting.
- Own TDS compliance — deduction, deposit, return filing, and reconciliation with books.
- Manage Income Tax compliance, including computation, return filing, and documentation.
- Compute and ensure timely payment of Advance Tax.
- Perform periodic tax reconciliations (GSTR-2B/2A, Form 26AS/AIS, books) to identify and resolve mismatches.
- Manage responses to tax notices and coordinate resolution within statutory timelines.
- Support and manage tax assessments and related proceedings, including documentation and representation support.
- Coordinate with external tax consultants, advisors, and legal counsel to ensure full compliance.
G. Audit
Independently manage all statutory and internal audit engagements, including:
- Statutory Audit
- Internal Audit
- GST Audit
- Tax Audit
- Bank Audit / Stock Audit (as applicable)
- Due Diligence (investor, lender, or M&A-related;)
- Investor Audit
Ownership includes preparing complete audit schedules and supporting documentation, proactively resolving audit queries, coordinating across teams to close observations, and ensuring every audit is completed within timelines with zero or minimal qualifications.
H. Statutory Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate GST filings across all applicable registrations.
- Ensure timely filing of TDS returns and issuance of TDS certificates.
- Ensure full Income Tax compliance, including timely filings and payments.
- Ensure compliance under the Companies Act, including statutory registers, filings, and Board/AGM-related finance documentation.
- Ensure timely MCA filings (annual returns, event-based filings, etc.).
- Coordinate on labour law-related finance compliance (PF, ESIC, professional tax, etc. from a finance/payment standpoint).
- Ensure compliance with any other applicable statutory, regulatory, or industry-specific requirement.
I. Government Notices
Act as the primary owner for responding to and resolving notices from:
- GST Department
- Income Tax Department
- Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA)
- Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO)
- Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)
- Labour Department
- Other applicable regulatory or statutory authorities
Team Management
- Lead, structure, and manage the Finance & Accounts team, including finance executives and accountants.
- Own performance management for the team, including goal-setting and periodic reviews.
- Plan and allocate work across the team to ensure balanced coverage and timely delivery.
- Mentor and coach team members to build technical and professional capability.
- Design and deliver training to keep the team current on compliance, systems, and best practices.
- Build a culture of ownership and accountability across the finance function.
- Identify and develop finance talent for future leadership roles within the organization.
Internal Financial Controls
- Design, implement, and continuously strengthen internal financial controls across all finance processes.
- Put in place checks that prevent accounting errors before they occur, not just detect them after.
- Build safeguards and monitoring mechanisms for fraud prevention.
- Monitor ongoing compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
- Design and enforce approval workflows and authorization matrices for payments, expenses, and journal entries.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks across the business.
- Conduct periodic process audits to test the effectiveness of controls and close identified gaps.

Qualification
Preferred qualifications

Experience
- 8–12 years of progressive experience in Finance & Accounts.
- Minimum 3–5 years in a finance managerial role, managing a team.
- Demonstrated experience independently managing the complete finance function — accounting, compliance, taxation, audit, and treasury — not limited to one silo.
- Proven track record of handling statutory audits independently, from planning through closure.
