Job Title
Technical Program Manager Grading, Sorting & Packing Machine Systems
Role Summary
The Technical Program Manager will lead end-to-end execution of machine development and manufacturing programs for grading, weighing, sorting, inspection, bagging, clipping, and packaging systems used in agricultural and industrial applications.
The role requires close coordination across:
- Mechanical design teams
- Embedded/electrical/control teams
- Vision system and software teams
- Procurement and sourcing
- Sheet metal, machining, and fabrication vendors
- Assembly, integration, and testing teams
- Quality and field deployment teams
- The primary objective is to ensure machines are developed, manufactured, integrated, tested, and deployed on schedule, within target cost, and with reliable field performance.
The role is highly execution-oriented and requires robust ownership of timelines, vendor coordination, manufacturing readiness, issue resolution, and cross-functional alignment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Planning & Execution
- Create and maintain detailed project plans covering:
o
Design
o
Procurement
o
Fabrication
o
Assembly
o
Electrical integration
o
Embedded/software integration
o
Testing and validation
o
FAT and field trials
- Define project milestones, dependencies, risks, and critical paths
- Conduct regular project reviews and track execution against timelines
- Drive closure of action items and escalation of delays or blockers
- Ensure effective coordination between internal teams and external vendors
2. Cross-Functional Engineering Coordination
- Coordinate execution between:
o
Mechanical engineering
o
Embedded and electronics teams
o
Software and vision teams
o
Manufacturing and assembly teams
- Ensure alignment between machine architecture, controls, sensors, and software integration
- Track engineering deliverables including:
o
Drawings
o
BOM releases
o
Electrical schematics
o
Firmware/software readiness
o
Assembly documentation
- Ensure design changes and revisions are communicated and implemented properly across teams
3. Procurement & Vendor Management
- Coordinate with procurement teams for timely sourcing of:
o
Fabricated components
o
Machined parts
o
Motors and drives
o
Pneumatics
o
Sensors and load cells
o
Controllers and electrical components
o
Cameras, lighting, and vision hardware
- Track vendor manufacturing progress, quality, and delivery schedules
- Work closely with fabrication vendors for:
o
Sheet metal
o
Machining
o
Welding
o
Powder coating
o
Structural assemblies
- Support vendor development and alternate sourcing initiatives for critical components
- Escalate supply chain risks and delays proactively
4. Manufacturing & Assembly Readiness
- Ensure manufacturing readiness before release to fabrication and assembly
- Ensure manufacturing readiness before release to fabrication and assembly
- Review manufacturability of:
o
Sheet metal parts
o
Weldments
o
Machined components
o
Assembly structures
- Coordinate prototype and pilot builds
- Ensure assembly kit completeness and material availability
- Work with assembly teams to resolve:
o
Fitment issues
o
Tolerance stack-up issues
o
Wiring and pneumatic routing challenges
o
Mechanical integration problems
- Support DFM/DFA improvements to reduce assembly time, cost, and rework
5. Vision System & Automation Integration
- Coordinate integration of:
o
Industrial cameras
o
Lighting systems
o
Vision inspection and sorting software
o
Sensors and actuators
o
PLC/controller systems
o
Servo and motion systems
- Work with embedded and vision teams to ensure:
o
Reliable grading/sorting performance
o
Calibration and synchronization
o
Real-time communication between systems
o
Stable operation during production conditions
- Support testing and optimization of sorting accuracy, throughput, and repeatability
6. Testing, Validation & Deployment
- Plan and monitor:
o
Machine testing
o
FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing)
o
Trial runs
o
Field deployments
- Ensure machines meet targets for:
o
Accuracy
o
Throughput
o
Reliability
o
Stability
o
Safety
- Maintain issue trackers and coordinate root-cause analysis and corrective actions
- Support field feedback incorporation into future revisions
7. Reporting & Project Control
- Maintain and publish:
o
Project schedules
o
BOM tracking
o
Procurement status
o
Vendor progress reports
o
Risk registers
o
Testing status
o
Open issue trackers
- Provide regular updates to leadership on:
o
Timeline adherence
o
Risks and bottlenecks
o
Cost impact
o
Manufacturing readiness
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong execution and project coordination capability in industrial hardware projects
- Understanding of:
o
Industrial machinery/SPM development
o
Sheet metal fabrication and machining
o
Pneumatics and motion systems
o
Sensors and load-cell based systems
o
Embedded/control systems
o
Industrial vision inspection and sorting systems
- Ability to read and interpret:
o
Mechanical drawings
o
BOMs
o
Assembly drawings
o
Electrical schematics
- Strong vendor management and manufacturing coordination skills
- Excellent follow-up, communication, and issue-resolution capability
Preferred Experience
- 5–12 years of experience in:
o
Machine building
o
Industrial automation
o
Packaging systems
o
Grading/sorting systems
o
Material handling equipment
o
Special Purpose Machines (SPM)
- Experience managing outsourced fabrication and assembly vendors
- Exposure to machine vision integration and automation systems preferred
- Experience handling prototype-to-production transitions preferred
