Job Summary
JD Institute of Fashion Technology are looking for a skilled and experienced Pattern Making & Garment Construction Faculty to deliver high-quality practical and theoretical instruction to students pursuing fashion design. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching pattern-making techniques, garment construction, sewing, finishing, and related technical skills while guiding students through practical assignments and design projects.
The ideal candidate should have strong technical expertise in pattern making and garment construction, along with the ability to effectively demonstrate techniques and mentor students in developing industry-relevant skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engaging theoretical and practical sessions on pattern making and garment construction.
- Teach fundamentals and advanced techniques of pattern drafting, flat pattern making, draping, grading, and garment construction.
- Demonstrate garment construction techniques including cutting, stitching, seam finishing, closures, collars, sleeves, pockets, waistbands, and other garment details.
- Guide students in developing patterns from basic blocks/slopers to finished garments.
- Teach students to interpret fashion illustrations, technical drawings, measurements, and garment specifications.
- Provide hands-on demonstrations of industrial and domestic sewing machines and appropriate sewing techniques.
- Guide students in fabric selection, fabric handling, grainline, layout, cutting, and construction.
- Train students in achieving accuracy, fit, finishing, and quality standards in garments.
- Supervise practical assignments, projects,
assessments, and portfolio development.
- Provide constructive feedback on students' patterns, samples, construction techniques, and finished garments.
- Ensure students maintain proper documentation of patterns, samples, construction processes, and technical details.
- Introduce students to industry practices, production techniques, quality standards, and contemporary garment construction methods.
- Stay updated with current fashion industry trends, construction techniques, technologies, and sustainable practices.
- Maintain academic records including attendance, assessment, internal marks, project evaluation, and student progress reports.
- Coordinate with the HOD and academic team regarding lesson plans, curriculum delivery, assessments, and student activities.
- Ensure timely completion of assigned modules and academic deliverables.
- Maintain a professional, disciplined, and safe studio/classroom environment.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Solid knowledge of Pattern Making and Garment Construction.
- Proficiency in pattern drafting, draping, garment fitting, and sewing techniques.
- Good understanding of different fabrics, their properties, and appropriate construction methods.
- Ability to read and interpret fashion sketches and technical drawings.
- Robust practical demonstration and teaching skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to mentor students with different levels of technical proficiency.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to manage practical classes, workshops, and studio activities effectively.
- Knowledge of sustainable and contemporary garment construction practices will be an advantage.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Garment Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant professional qualifications/certifications in pattern making or garment construction will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 2–5 years of relevant industry/teaching experience in Pattern Making, Garment Construction, Fashion Design, or Apparel Production.
- Candidates with strong industry experience and demonstrated technical expertise may also be considered.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Robust hands-on experience in pattern development and garment construction.
- Prior experience teaching fashion design students will be preferred.
- Industry exposure in apparel manufacturing, fashion brands, design studios, or garment production will be an advantage.
- Passionate about teaching, mentoring, and developing students' technical and creative abilities.
- Ability to translate industry knowledge into practical classroom learning.

Pay: ₹45,000.00 - ₹55,000.00 per month
