Main purpose of position
To conduct basic, applied, and strategic research to discover, deploy and develop improved germplasm of legumes especially chickpea.
Reports to: Lead Legume breeder and Regional Coordinator (RC)
Location: Amlaha, India

Main responsibilities
- Plan and execute basic, strategic, and applied research on chickpea in consultation with food legumes team
- Develop and deploy breeding material as per the defined breeding product profiles of chickpea in the target populations of environment in India
- Upscaling of chickpea technologies under various projects/initiatives, and linking farmers with research products and developmental activities
- Maintenance breeding and quality seed production of chickpea varieties
- Data recording and management, statistical analysis and interpretation of results generated from various experiments
- Management of breeding and evaluation pipelines of chickpea in BMS or any other system adopted by ICARDA
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in reputed journals, technical reports of various projects, technical bulletins, and training materials
- Develop research proposals for resource generation
- Represent ICARDA in regional and international fora.
- Perform any other duties as required by supervisor.
Requirements:
Education, qualifications, and experience
- PhD in plant breeding, plant genetics or related scientific fields from a reputed agricultural university
- At least 5 years’ experience in breeding crops preferably legumes.
- Proven record of quality research publications in international journals
