About The Role The GA GECC Lead Protection and Control (CCS) Engineer plays a pivotal role in executing engineering activities related to Conventional Control Systems for high-voltage substations. This position involves overseeing the design, development, and implementation of protection and control panels for EHV/HV substations, ensuring adherence to quality, cost, and schedule parameters. The successful candidate will coordinate cross-functional teams, liaise with clients and suppliers, and ensure that all project deliverables meet technical specifications and standards.
This role requires a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in substation automation, digital communication protocols, and protection relay systems. The engineer will be responsible for technical calculations, design validation, and supporting manufacturing and commissioning activities to ensure seamless project execution and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline from a reputed university. A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in HV/EHV substation design and engineering is essential. Knowledge of GE and competitor products, substation automation systems, and digital communication protocols such as IEC61850, PRP, RSTP, and serial communication is required.
Proficiency in English and/or Arabic communication skills, both oral and written, is necessary.
The candidate should be willing and able to travel globally without restrictions. Additional desirable qualifications include the ability to interpret tender and contract documents, lead and mentor teams, and present complex technical solutions effectively.
Responsibilities
- Execute the design and engineering activities for protection and control panels in EHV/HV substations, ensuring compliance with quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Understand project technical requirements, customer standards, and specifications, proposing appropriate solutions aligned with project scope.
- Perform technical calculations for panel AC/DC loads, CT/PT sizing, relay settings, and verify their adequacy.
- Select protection relays and auxiliary materials based on project specifications and customer needs.
- Prepare, review, and submit detailed design documentation to clients, managing follow-up for approvals.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet technical standards and project requirements.
- Coordinate manufacturing documentation and support factory activities during panel integration and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Support project management with man-day estimates and material planning during ITO and OTR stages, controlling costs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality design documents to stakeholders, adhering to project schedules.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, contributing to project strategy and resolving design issues collaboratively.
- Analyze customer requirements, prepare compliance documentation, and identify potential risks or exceptions for escalation.
- Raise change requests for deviations from project specifications and validate final designs against customer acceptance criteria.
- Work towards cost optimization through standardization and creative solutions from design inception to energization.
- Review and validate technical offers from suppliers, supporting procurement negotiations and post-order activities.
- Enhance and improve design solutions to better meet customer expectations and operational efficiency.
- Demonstrate a commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards, actively promoting a zero-deviation safety culture.
- Maintain effective communication with customers to ensure excellent service delivery and foster strong relationships.
- Collaborate with application teams to address product issues, providing timely solutions to customers.
