An ICU Staff Nurse provides specialized, round-the-clock medical care and continuous observation for critically ill or unstable patients in the Intensive Care Unit. [1, 2]Job Overview

- Role: ICU Staff Nurse / Critical Care Nurse

- Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

- Reports To: Senior Nursing Officer / Nursing Superintendent [1]

Key Responsibilities

- Patient Monitoring: Continuously track and record vital signs, hemodynamic parameters, and neurological status, reporting any rapid changes to the physician. [1, 2, 3]

- Emergency Response: “When a patient stops breathing or their heart stops, the critical care nurse must respond quickly and calmly to restore breathing and blood flow.” -- [Study.com].

- Medication & Treatment: Administer prescribed intravenous drugs, manage life support systems, and operate complex critical care equipment (ventilators, infusion pumps). [1, 2, 3]

- Care Planning: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create, implement, and update individualized critical care plans. [1, 2, 3]





- Documentation: Maintain accurate, real-time medical charts, nursing notes, and diagnostic test results in patient records. [1, 2]

- Family Support: Communicate patient status updates clearly and offer emotional support to families under high stress. [1, 2, 3]

Qualifications & Requirements

- Education: Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing).

- Licensure: Active state nursing council registration / RN license.

- Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

- Skills: High-pressure resilience, rapid decision-making, exceptional multitasking, and deep technical competency in critical care protocols. [1, 2, 3]
