Role Overview
We are looking for a Solution Architect with strong Infrastructure and Azure expertise who can design secure, resilient and supportable solutions in a large, complex organisation.
The essential focus of this role is infrastructure, cloud and networking architecture across on-premises, Azure and hybrid environments. The successful candidate will be technically credible in Azure and infrastructure design, with sufficient networking depth to shape connectivity decisions and work effectively with network engineering and security specialists. They will also be able to think beyond a single technology silo and understand the wider impact of their decisions across security, identity, integration, operations and business outcomes.
Our technology estate includes SAP, ServiceNow, Salesforce, Genesys and Azure-based platforms. Direct experience across all of these platforms is not required, but the successful candidate should be comfortable working with architects and specialists across these domains.
This role is ideal for someone who combines strong cloud and infrastructure knowledge with practical networking architecture experience, company-wide solution thinking, sound judgement and curiosity about how different technology domains interact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead infrastructure and cloud architecture activities across a diverse technology landscape.
- Design secure, resilient and supportable solutions aligned to enterprise standards.
- Contribute to Azure strategy, cloud adoption and platform evolution.
- Define and assure networking and connectivity architectures across on-premises, Azure and hybrid environments, working with network engineering and security specialists where detailed engineering expertise is required.
- Work closely with architects across SAP, ServiceNow, Salesforce, Data and Integration domains.
- Support enterprise identity, authentication and access management strategies.
- Contribute to security architecture discussions and ensure security is embedded into solution designs.
- Support architecture governance, roadmap development and domain stewardship activities where relevant.
- Help define infrastructure standards, patterns and architectural guardrails.
- Support enterprise-wide transformation initiatives and cloud migration programmes.
- Consider operational supportability, resilience, disaster recovery and lifecycle management in solution designs.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong Infrastructure Architecture experience.
- Strong Azure architecture experience.
- Experience designing solutions for large, complex organisations.
- Strong practical knowledge of on-premises, cloud and hybrid networking architecture, including network segmentation, routing, DNS, firewalls, load balancing, private connectivity, resilience and secure cloud access patterns. Deep specialist expertise across every networking technology is not expected, but candidates must be able to make sound architectural decisions and work effectively with network engineering and security specialists.
- Experience working with identity and access management concepts.
- Ability to engage effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience balancing technical, security, operational and business requirements.
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
Highly Desirable The following areas are highly desirable rather than mandatory. We would not expect candidates to demonstrate deep expertise across all of them, but experience in some areas,
combined with the curiosity and judgement to work effectively with specialists in the others, would be a robust advantage.
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID.
- Understanding of Zero Trust principles.
- Experience with Conditional Access, Privileged Access and identity governance.
- Experience supporting enterprise platforms such as SAP, ServiceNow or Salesforce.
- Experience with security architecture and risk-based design decisions.
- Understanding of integration and data architecture principles.
- Experience with cloud landing zones and enterprise governance models.
- Experience contributing to technology roadmaps and standards.
The Type of Architect We Are Looking For
We are seeking a strong Infrastructure and Azure architect who can think beyond a single technology silo.
The successful candidate will understand that infrastructure decisions can impact applications, data, security, integration, operations and business outcomes. They will be comfortable working across architectural boundaries, collaborating with other domain specialists and helping shape solutions that are coherent across multiple technologies.
Whilst Azure and Infrastructure will be their primary area of expertise, they will have a genuine interest in broader company-wide technology considerations and an appreciation of how cloud, identity, security, integration and business platforms work together.
Why This Role Is Different
Many infrastructure architecture roles focus primarily on hosting, networking and cloud technologies.
In this role, we are looking for someone who can combine deep Azure and infrastructure expertise with broader company-wide solution thinking. The successful candidate will work alongside architects responsible for SAP, ServiceNow, Salesforce, Data and Integration and will play a key role in shaping secure, resilient and supportable end-to-end solutions.
