About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Development Support Engineer with over 7 years of experience to join our team for a short-term project. The primary focus of this role is to support application testing and troubleshooting during a critical SQL Server 2025 migration initiative. The successful candidate will work closely with our development team to ensure a seamless transition from SQL Server 2016 to SQL Server 2025, verifying application compatibility, diagnosing issues, and documenting solutions.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a significant migration project, utilizing your expertise in application support, SQL Server environments, and debugging tools.

Qualifications The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in supporting and testing custom-developed software applications, with hands-on experience in Microsoft Visual Studio and SQL Server troubleshooting. A comprehensive understanding of SQL Server environments, database connectivity, and migration components is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills,



with the ability to work collaboratively with development teams.

Relevant certifications in SQL Server or application development are advantageous. The role requires immediate availability and the ability to work US timings effectively.

Responsibilities

As a Software Development Support Engineer, your responsibilities will include collaborating with the development team to inventory current production applications, stored procedures, and APIs. You will execute test cases to validate application functionality in the new SQL Server 2025 environment, ensuring compatibility and performance. Installing, configuring, and debugging custom applications built using various Visual Studio versions will be a key aspect of your role.

You will analyze SQL Server logs to identify errors, troubleshoot stored procedure failures, and work with developers to resolve software dependency and compatibility issues.

You will be tasked with identifying potential migration issues related to logins, permissions, linked servers, SQL Agent jobs, and other server-level configurations. Performing connectivity tests—including DNS, TCP, and authentication—will be essential to ensure seamless integration. Additionally, you will evaluate application performance metrics, such as query response times, blocking, deadlocks, CPU, memory, and disk latency, comparing pre- and post-migration environments.

Documenting all findings, including errors,



root causes, impacts, workarounds, and resolutions, is crucial for maintaining clear communication and facilitating troubleshooting. You will also assist in testing applications against increased SQL database compatibility levels and support external application testing for third-party systems like IBM Cognos and MasterWholesale.

Your role will involve close coordination with the team to ensure all issues are addressed promptly, and the migration proceeds smoothly without disrupting ongoing operations.
