The 3D Printing & Rapid Prototyping Lead will manage and optimize additive manufacturing processes for drone structures, components, and mounting solutions, ensuring functional, lightweight, and flight-ready designs.
Key Responsibilities
Design and fabricate drone frames, arms, mounts, and structural components using 3D printing
Select appropriate materials (PLA, PETG, ABS, Nylon, etc.) based on strength, weight, and vibration considerations
Optimize print orientation, infill, and tolerances for flight durability
Redesign components based on real-world flight feedback and failures
Maintain and manage 3D printers and prototyping workflow
Support rapid iteration cycles for drone development projects
Mentor students in practical prototyping and manufacturing techniques
Required Skills & Experience
Solid hands-on experience with FDM 3D printing
Deep understanding of material properties and structural behavior
Experience designing parts specifically for agile loads and vibration environments
Ability to troubleshoot print failures and structural weaknesses
CAD experience for functional part design
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working on drones, robotics, or aerospace-related prototypes
Knowledge of lightweight structural design principles
Familiarity with iterative engineering workflows
