Role Summary The Engineering Client Certification Engineer certifies and technically lifecycle-manages the IT hardware in the Engineering-specific hardware basket ('Engineering-Warenkorb') and specialty Engineering devices high-performance notebooks, desktops/towers, monitors, and docking stations sized for CAx/CAD workloads used by the client's Business Unit Engineering.
The role executes the full certification process defined by the client (technical minimum requirements, BIOS/driver/firmware documentation, compatibility and stress testing) before recent or changed hardware is added to the global catalog, and supports the EHL's role as a 'Business Accelerator' translating Engineering demand into IT-operational readiness.
The Engineering Hardware Lab must maintain at least 2–3 like-for-like units of each certified device type on site through End of Support (EoS) for ongoing driver/firmware/BIOS/software testing.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Certification Execution
- Run the full IT hardware certification process for Engineering-Warenkorb devices (Notebooks, Desktops/Tower, Monitors, Docking Stations) against the client's technical minimum requirements (Desktop/Notebook/Display Minimum Requirements specifications).
- Verify, before starting certification, that the hardware meets current minimum requirements, and confirm client sign-off on those requirements before certification begins (certification may not start without this approval).
- Complete certification within the SLA window, measured from ITSM ticket creation (after minimum-requirements approval) to delivery of complete certification results.
Recertification & Change Management
- Perform recertification when an OEM changes a component of already-certified hardware — scope and type of testing agreed with the client based on the component affected.
- Perform targeted or full recertification when a driver, firmware, or BIOS update to certified hardware could affect operations (new/removed settings or features, bug fixes); recommend scope to the client for approval.
Documentation & Reporting
- Document BIOS settings, driver structure, configurations, lifecycle (EoL/EoS), approvals and certificates for every certified device.
- Prepare certification sheets for client review and approval; maintain and reuse existing certification sheets where applicable.
- Document unresolvable errors or deviations (e.g., compatibility, weight specifications) discovered during certification.
Test Equipment & Lab Operations
- Procure and maintain the software and hardware needed for certification (licenses, benchmark tools, brightness scanners, power meters, etc.), using only standard, purpose-built tools.
- Maintain 2–3 like-for-like units of every certified Engineering device type in the GHL through End of Support (EoS), for use in ongoing driver/firmware/BIOS/software (security) update testing.
Technical Lifecycle Management
- Distribute regular driver/firmware/BIOS and hardware-relevant software updates within SLA: 6 months for standard rollout, 30 days for bugfix/feature updates, 7 days for major incident fixes, and CVSS-tiered security SLAs (180/90/30/7 days by severity), with Emergency security updates deployed immediately on release.
- Log all findings in the ITSM tool and process them per ITIL; only distribute updates approved by the OEM/vendor unless the client authorizes an exception.
Coordination
- Coordinate with Digital Workplace Services and Engineering department stakeholders per the client's agile governance and project-method standards.
- Support onboarding of Remote Driver Integration (RDI) devices for Engineering (client-procured hardware not in the standard catalog) through their full technical lifecycle to EoS.
