About the Role
DawerOne is hiring a senior Quality Engineer to join one of our delivery pods on a US client engagement. You will work alongside our engineers and our Quality Engineering lead as part of the DawerOne team.
This role covers both manual and automated testing, with the emphasis firmly on automation. We are building out automated coverage on this engagement and the goal over the next six months is to get that coverage high. Most of your time goes into Playwright automation across UI, API, and end-to-end workflows.
Manual testing is how that work starts. Features are tested by hand in-sprint, and manual regression runs across releases, both of which tell you what the system actually does and where the risk sits before you automate it.
The systems are large and connected. A business process typically runs across a core platform, integration middleware, workflow orchestration, and several APIs before it completes. Testing well means following the process across those boundaries and tracing a failure back to where it actually broke.
What You Will Do
Test Planning and Coverage
- Work with the Quality Engineering lead to define test strategy and test plans for your products, workflows, and releases.
- Translate user stories, acceptance criteria, API specifications, and technical documentation into test coverage.
- Write and maintain test cases and test suites, and keep them current as the product changes.
- Design coverage beyond the happy path: negative, boundary, authorization, contract, idempotency, concurrency, resilience, and error-handling scenarios.
- Decide what belongs in UI automation, API automation, integration testing, and hands-on testing, and prioritise by risk.
- Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, defects, and release evidence.
Finding and Managing Defects
- Find bugs. This is the core of the job, and the work is judged on what gets caught before the client's users see it.
- Investigate every failure before reporting it, separating application defects from automation failures, environment problems, authentication issues, and test-data problems.
- Raise defects with clear reproduction steps, evidence, logs, environment detail, and expected versus actual behaviour.
- Own defects through their lifecycle: triage, severity and priority, assignment, follow-up with developers, retest, and closure.
- Verify fixes and check for regression around them rather than closing on a developer's word.
- Track defect trends across releases and flag recurring problem areas to the pod and the client.
- Run defect triage discussions with developers and product stakeholders and hold a position on severity.
Manual and Exploratory Testing
- Test features manually in-sprint before they are automated.
- Run manual regression across releases and use that work to decide what belongs in the automated suite.
- Perform exploratory testing to find the risks that scripted coverage misses.
- Test integrated workflows end to end across multiple systems and validate data as it moves between them.
Automation Engineering
- Grow automated coverage substantially over the next six months, prioritising the workflows that carry the most risk.
- Build and maintain automated tests in Playwright across UI, API, and end-to-end workflows.
- Design reusable fixtures, service abstractions, API clients, token-management and test-data utilities, and reporting components.
- Run automation in GitHub workflows and CI/CD pipelines, including automated quality gates.
- Diagnose flaky tests at root cause rather than masking them with retries.
- Participate in automation code reviews and maintain standards for test isolation, parallel execution, logging, and project structure.
API and Integration Testing
- Test REST services, asynchronous integrations, workflow orchestration, and system-to-system data movement.
- Test authentication and authorization patterns including OAuth, client credentials, token refresh, roles, and permissions.
- Validate schemas, status codes, headers, business rules, data persistence, and downstream effects.
- Use mocks, service virtualization, or controlled test data where full end-to-end testing is impractical.
Delivery and Reporting
- Participate in refinement and sprint planning, and raise gaps in acceptance criteria, API details, test data, permissions, and dependencies early.
- Report on test coverage, execution results, open defects, risks, blockers, and release readiness.
- Give a clear view on whether a release is safe to ship, and say so when it is not.
- Maintain client-facing quality documentation including test plans, coverage maps, and release evidence.
- Use AI coding agents to support test design, implementation, and debugging, and validate everything before it ships.
What You Will Need
- 6+ years in quality engineering, software testing, and test automation, with clear seniority in recent roles.
- Substantial production Playwright experience: fixtures, projects, configuration, tracing, parallel execution, and API testing,
maintained through multiple release cycles.
- Strong REST API testing experience against integrated enterprise systems.
- Ability to define test strategy, test plans, and test cases, not just execute plans written by others.
- Strong test design skills, including risk-based prioritisation and coverage beyond the happy path.
- Track record of finding significant defects, not only executing coverage someone else designed.
- Experience owning the defect lifecycle end to end, including triage, severity calls, developer follow-up, and verification.
- Experience with defect tracking and test management tools such as Jira, Xray, TestRail, Zephyr, or Azure DevOps.
- Experience testing across UI, API, orchestration, integration, and data layers.
- Experience with authentication and authorization testing.
- Git, GitHub, pull requests, branching strategies, and automated pipelines.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, with strong debugging skills.
- Experience reporting on quality and release readiness to stakeholders, including giving an unwelcome answer when the evidence supports it.
- Experience working inside a client delivery team.
- Strong written and verbal English.
Nice to Have
- Enterprise business platforms, their data and security models, connected applications, and integrations. Salesforce experience is relevant.
- Integration and middleware platforms such as MuleSoft.
- Workflow and process orchestration platforms such as Flowable.
- Consulting or professional services environments.
- Postman, OpenAPI specifications, or contract testing.
- GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, MCP servers, or other AI-assisted development tools.
- BDD, Gherkin, or structured acceptance-test patterns.
- Accessibility, performance, security, or observability testing.
- Testing AI agents or nondeterministic workflows.
Working Model Remote-first, with three to four days per month at our Gurgaon office. Approximately four hours of daily overlap with US business hours is required.
You need to be able to make those office days. Candidates outside Delhi NCR who are willing to relocate at their own expense are welcome to apply. We do not provide relocation assistance.
Engagement
Six-month contract with DawerOne, with expected extension and a path to a full-time role in the practice.
This is a backfill on a live engagement and we are moving quickly. Our process is three conversations over a few days, and we would like the selected candidate to start within about two weeks. Further positions in this practice are opening on longer lead times, so robust candidates who are not immediately available are still welcome to apply.
