About the role
We are seeking a Senior Process Systems Designer with experience in power plant systems and a solid background in nuclear power plant systems. In this role, you will develop, model, and optimise fluid, thermal, and auxiliary process systems for power generation facilities. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering disciplines, safety analysts, and equipment suppliers to produce compliant, reliable, and high-safety process designs from concept through plant execution.
Responsibilities
- Process Flow Diagramming: Develop and update Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs;), process control diagrams, and system mass and energy balances.
- System Design & Integration: Design and layout fluid handling, thermal, chemical treatment, cooling, and auxiliary support systems tailored to high-reliability power generation standards.
- Nuclear System Specifics:
Support the design of nuclear steam supply systems (NSSS), primary/secondary coolant loops, safety-related fluid systems, and radioactive waste management systems in compliance with nuclear regulatory frameworks, designing safety-related components to ASME BPVC Section III (Subsections NB/NC/ND) as applicable to their safety classification.
- Equipment Sizing & Specification: Calculate and specify process equipment parameters, including pumps, control valves, heat exchangers, pressure relief devices, tanks, and inline strainers, with in-service testing provisions per the ASME OM Code where safety-related.
- Thermal & Hydraulic Analysis: Perform fluid flow modelling, pressure drop calculations, water hammer evaluations, and thermal-hydraulic system analysis.
- Regulatory & Code Compliance: Ensure process design documents meet nuclear and industrial safety regulations (e.g., AERB guidelines, ASME NQA-1, ASME BPVC Section III, ASME B31.1, ASME OM Code, IEEE 603, and applicable regulatory requirements for radiation protection and radioactive waste management).
- Cross-Disciplinary Coordination: Partner with mechanical, I&C; (Instrumentation & Control), electrical, and structural design teams to ensure seamless spatial integration and control system mapping.
Qualification & Experience
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in process design for power generation, heavy industrial facilities, EPC project execution or equivalent.
- Technical Software: Proficiency in process simulation tools (e.g., ASPEN Plus or equivalent) and CAD software (AutoCAD or equivalent).
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and process automation controls.
Preferred attributes
- MTech in mechanical or chemical engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with nuclear power generation systems.
- Familiarity with nuclear safety classification of equipment, quality assurance programs (ASME NQA-1), and nuclear licensing requirements under AERB.
- Exposure to open-source thermal-hydraulic and systems modelling codes used in nuclear system analysis, such as SAM (System Analysis Module, Argonne National Laboratory), TRANSFORM (Modelica-based nuclear system modelling library, Oak Ridge National Laboratory), or Pronghorn (Idaho National Laboratory) or equivalent thermal-hydraulic codes used in detailed safety analysis.
- Familiarity with ANSI/ANS standards relevant to plant design (e.g., ANS-51.1 for PWR, ANS-52.1 for BWR, ANSI/ANS-58.2 Single Failure Criteria).
- Working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III (Nuclear Power Plant Components), ASME NQA-1, ASME B31.1, and AERB safety guides and codes applicable to nuclear power plant design.
Interested candidates with relevant experience are encouraged to apply with their updated resume.
