They handle time studies, line balancing, and workflow optimization to ensure the smooth manufacturing of apparel.
RESPONSIBILTIES
- Measure operation time using time and motion studies.
- Calculate SAM (Standard Allowed Minutes) or SMV for each garment style.
- Create operation bulletins (OB) and process breakdowns.
- Fix daily production targets for individual operators and sewing lines.
Line Planning and Balancing
- Design and set up line layouts before a new style starts.
- Balance work across operations to stop blockages and idle time.
- Calculate required machines, attachments, and workers.
- Monitor Work-In-Progress (WIP) to keep production moving smoothly.
Efficiency and Waste Reduction
- Track hourly output and line efficiency.
- Reduce non-productive time and off-standard losses.
- Apply lean manufacturing methods and 5S standards.
- Maintain worker skill matrices and build multi-skilled operator teams.
