Senior Associate, Accounting Transformation

Role Summary The Accounting Transformation team partners with clients to improve, remediate, and modernize their accounting operations. As a Senior Associate, you will assess accounting processes, financial data, and reporting practices to identify risks, compliance gaps, and operational inefficiencies. You will lead accounting remediation initiatives, including financial statement clean-up, account reconciliations, GAAP adjustments, close process documentation, and implementation of scalable accounting practices.

This is a project-based individual contributor role focused on transforming accounting functions and delivering sustainable outcomes. Success is measured by the quality, accuracy, and completeness of the accounting records, reconciliations, and close processes you leave behind.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Assessment & Analysis

- Evaluate accounting policies, procedures, controls, and reporting practices for compliance with US GAAP.
- Review transaction cycles, including revenue, procure-to-pay, payroll, and month-end close processes.
- Identify accounting risks, reporting issues, control gaps, and operational inefficiencies.
- Assess the quality of the general ledger, chart of accounts, and underlying financial data.
- Document findings and develop remediation plans to address identified issues.

Accounting Remediation & Transformation

- Perform accounting clean-up initiatives, including historical corrections, opening balance sheet reconstruction, and cash-to-accrual conversions.
- Prepare and post adjusting journal entries supported by appropriate calculations and documentation.
- Apply US GAAP guidance across key accounting areas, including revenue recognition, deferred revenue, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, leases, and equity.
- Rebuild or optimize chart of accounts structures and support financial data remediation efforts.
- Research accounting issues and prepare supporting analysis and documentation.

Reconciliations & Close Process Development





- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding reconciling items.
- Develop and document month-end close procedures, workflows, and control activities.
- Create workpapers, reconciliation templates, supporting schedules, and audit-ready documentation.
- Establish repeatable and scalable close processes that can be maintained by ongoing accounting teams.
- Transition completed engagements to Exbo's Controllership team through comprehensive documentation and knowledge transfer.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA, CA, CMA, or equivalent skilled qualification preferred.
- 3 + years of accounting experience in public accounting, controllership, accounting operations, or financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accounting research methodologies.
- Experience managing full-cycle month-end close activities and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Hands-on experience preparing and posting adjusting journal entries.
- Advanced Excel skills, including large data analysis, pivot tables, lookup functions, and Power Query.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to create clear process documentation.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to producing accurate, audit-ready work.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with limited supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience assessing and redesigning accounting processes and controls.
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online.
- Experience with accounting clean-ups, first-audit readiness projects, or finance transformation initiatives.
- Experience supporting US-based clients and working within US GAAP reporting environments.
- Experience with venture-backed, private equity-backed, or high-growth companies.
