Role Description The Cryosphere Research Engineer will conduct research on high-altitude cryospheric systems, including sea ice, glaciers, ice sheets, and snow cover, using geospatial and remote sensing data. Day-to-day responsibilities include collecting, processing, and analyzing satellite and model datasets; developing methods to monitor cryosphere changes; and generating insights relevant to oceans, climate, and downstream agricultural impacts.
The scientist will design and validate algorithms, prepare technical reports, and contribute to scientific publications and project proposals. They will collaborate with data scientists, software engineers,
and other researchers to integrate cryosphere analytics into operational geospatial intelligence products. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Pune City.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong domain knowledge in cryosphere science, polar climatology, glaciology, or related Earth system sciences.
- Candidates should possess skills in remote sensing and geospatial analysis, including experience with satellite data (e.g., optical, SAR) and GIS tools.
- Candidates should possess quantitative and analytical skills, such as statistical analysis, data modeling, and handling large environmental datasets.
- Candidates should possess programming and computational skills, ideally in languages and tools commonly used for geospatial and scientific computing (e.g., Python, R, or MATLAB).
- Candidates should possess strong scientific communication skills, including the ability to write reports, papers, and present findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Relevant qualifications include a master’s or doctoral degree in geosciences, environmental science, climate science, geography, or a related field.
- Experience working with polar or high-altitude datasets, climate models, or operational geospatial products is beneficial.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, manage research timelines, and adapt to an applied, industry-focused research setting is highly valued.
