Job Title: Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) Technician

Department: Pulmonology

Reports To: Pulmonologist

Job Summary:
The PFT Technician is responsible for performing pulmonary function tests to assess lung function and assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with respiratory conditions. The role involves patient preparation, conducting tests according to standard protocols, maintaining equipment, and accurately recording results.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of pulmonary function tests (spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion studies, ABG sampling, etc.) as ordered by physicians.
- Prepare and educate patients on procedures, ensuring comfort and compliance.
- Accurately record and analyze test results, flagging abnormal findings for physician review.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot PFT equipment to ensure accurate measurements.
- Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and quality assurance guidelines.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and document procedures according to hospital/clinic policies.
- Collaborate with respiratory therapists, nurses,



and physicians to optimize patient care.
- Stay updated on advances in pulmonary diagnostics and participate in continuing education.

Qualifications:
- Associate degree or diploma in Respiratory Therapy, Pulmonary Technology, or related healthcare field.
- Certification in Pulmonary Function Testing (preferred).
- Knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pulmonary diagnostic procedures.
- Experience with PFT equipment and software.
- Robust interpersonal skills and ability to educate and reassure patients.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in recording and interpreting test data.
