Job Purpose:
Psycho-oncologist is a core member of the oncology team meeting the psychosocial needs of the patients and their families touched by cancer. The psycho-oncology services caters to both adult and pediatric cancer patients. The services engages in a broad spectrum of cancer care from Prevention such as life style changes, tobacco cessation, genetic counseling etc, Diagnosis to treatment through survivorship, Palliative care, Grief and Bereavement management
The Psycho-oncologist is responsible for psychosocial screening, assessment and provide evidence based psychosocial interventions to cancer patients and their family members.
Roles and Responsibilities
Patient Services:
- Offer psychosocial care to patients referred to the cancer hospital, either through referrals from various consultants or independent referrals or cases allotted by the head of different specialty.
- Document, maintain and monitor patients records
- Provide feedback to referral source
Academic Program
- Participate in academic activities of the department or other centers
- Participate in seminars, journal club, case presentations etc
Research Program
- Take active part in research program and associated activities in assigned projects
- Plan and execute projects
- Publish at least two papers annually
