Roles and Responsibilities of a Special Educator in Schools

A special educator in schools supports students with disabilities and diverse learning needs to help them achieve academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success within the school workplace.
Identification and Assessment
Identify students with learning difficulties, intellectual disabilities, autism, ADHD, emotional/behavioral disorders, or physical impairments.
Conduct screening and assessments.
Interpret psychological and educational reports.
Help determine eligibility for special education services.
Development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Prepare and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Set realistic, measurable academic and behavioral goals.
Modify curriculum according to individual needs.
Review and update IEPs periodically.
Instruction and Teaching
Provide individualized or small-group instruction.
Adapt teaching methods using multisensory approaches.
Simplify and modify lessons for better understanding.
