About the role
We are looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer Lead with experience in Power Plant Design to join our team. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting and developing complex power plant designs, factory layouts, and industrial general arrangement drawings.
Responsibilities
- Equipment Design & Modelling: Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D fabrication/assembly drawings for power plant mechanical equipment (e.g., heat exchangers, pressure vessels, pumps, valves, and heavy structural supports).
- System Layout & Piping: Develop equipment arrangements, general arrangement (GA) drawings, and piping layout designs adhering to plant space constraints and maintenance access requirements.
- Engineering Calculations: Perform foundational mechanical calculations (stress analysis, wall thickness,
thermal expansion, material selection, and pressure ratings) in compliance with ASME, API, and industry standards.
- Standards & Compliance: Ensure all equipment designs satisfy relevant codes, including ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC Section VIII/I), ASME BPVC Section III (Nuclear Power Plant Components) for nuclear Class 1/2/3 systems, ASME B31.1 (Power Piping), and safety standards.
- Vendor & Fabrication Coordination: Prepare equipment specifications, review vendor engineering drawings and data sheets, and support fabrication teams during the manufacturing phase to resolve design discrepancies.
- Design Reviews & Optimisation: Participate in multidisciplinary design coordination meetings to optimise equipment reliability, inspectability, and maintainability
Qualification & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- Technical Proficiency: 4+ years of hands-on experience in 3D CAD design tools (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) and 2D drafting software (AutoCAD).
- Power Plant Expertise: Strong background in power generation equipment (thermal,
combined cycle or renewable power plants) and associated balance of plant (BOP) systems. Knowledge of nuclear power plant equipment is a bonus.
- Codes & Standards: Thorough working knowledge of ASME B31.1/B31.3, API, and ASTM standards.
- Drafting Standards: Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;) according to ASME Y14.5.
- Pressure Vessel Sizing Software: Experience with PV Elite or equivalent for ASME Section VIII vessel design and sizing.
- Pipe Stress Analysis: Pipe stress analysis for conventional piping using AUTOPIPE, CAESAR II or equivalent.
Preferred attributes
- MTech(ME) with specialisation in design.
- Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools (e.g., ANSYS Mechanical or equivalent) for ASME Section III design-by-analysis work, including elastic-plastic fatigue and thermal stratification evaluations.
- Experience with heavy equipment material handling, ductwork, and structural steel connections in high-temperature or high-pressure environments.
- Experience with nuclear-qualified pipe stress software (e.g., PIPESTRESS, CAEPIPE) for Class 1/2/3 piping analysis per ASME III Subsections NB/NC/ND-3600.
- Familiarity with ASME BPVC (including Section III for nuclear components), AERB codes, and ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements for nuclear safety-related design work.
- Experience in Design Hazard Analyses, HAZOP reviews,
Interested candidates with relevant experience are encouraged to apply with their updated resume.
