About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and passionate Mechanical Design Engineer to join our R&D; engineering team.
The Engineer will work on mechanical product design, 3D modelling, engineering drawings, sheet metal components, mechanical assemblies, and prototype development for electric two-wheeler applications.
This role is suitable for candidates who want to build a solid career in automotive product development, EV engineering, mechanical design, and manufacturing.
The candidate will work closely with the Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, R&D;, and other cross-functional teams to develop and improve vehicle components while ensuring design quality, manufacturability, functionality, and project requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
- Prepare and maintain 2D engineering drawings, BOMs, DXF files, specifications, and other technical documentation.
- Design and develop sheet metal components, brackets, enclosures, fixtures, mounts, and mechanical assemblies.
- Apply fundamental principles of mechanical design, GD&T;, tolerancing, and tolerance stack-up.
- Ensure designs are suitable for manufacturing and consider relevant manufacturing processes and constraints.
- Support prototype development, assembly, testing, validation, and design iterations.
- Work with manufacturing teams to identify and resolve design-for-manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) issues.
- Incorporate engineering changes and maintain proper revision control and design documentation.
- Support product development activities from concept development through prototyping, validation, and production/SOP.
- Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and engineering problem-solving activities.
- Provide timely support to production and engineering teams for design-related issues.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for cost reduction, weight optimization, reliability improvement, and design simplification.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and ensure timely completion of assigned design activities.
Required Skills & Technical Knowledge
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of SolidWorks.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and engineering drawings.
- Basic knowledge of GD&T; and tolerance stack-up.
- Understanding of basic mechanical design calculations.
- Knowledge of sheet metal design and manufacturing processes.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, bending, welding, machining, fabrication, and fasteners will be an advantage.
- Understanding of BOMs, part drawings, assemblies, and engineering documentation.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work effectively with manufacturing and cross-functional teams.
- Good working knowledge of MS Excel and MS Office.
Educational Qualification
- B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, or
- Students with relevant academic or technical projects will be preferred.
- Candidates with experience in BAJA, SUPRA, Formula Student, EV projects, robotics, SAE projects, or other engineering projects will have an added advantage.
