Consultant Doctor — Hospital Job Description

A Consultant Doctor is responsible for providing specialized medical care, diagnosing and treating patients, conducting consultations, and guiding the clinical management of patients in coordination with other healthcare specialists.

Key Responsibilities
Examine and assess patients and obtain detailed medical histories.
Diagnose medical conditions using clinical evaluation and appropriate investigations.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
Provide outpatient and inpatient consultations within the area of specialization.
Prescribe medications, investigations, and other appropriate treatments.
Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans when required.
Perform or supervise relevant medical procedures according to specialization.
Attend to medical emergencies and provide appropriate clinical management.
Review laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic reports.
Maintain accurate and timely patient medical records.
Coordinate with nursing staff, medical officers, surgeons, and other specialists.




Provide guidance to junior doctors and other clinical staff.
Counsel patients and attendants regarding diagnosis, treatment, risks, and follow-up care.
Participate in clinical meetings, case discussions, audits, and quality-improvement activities.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, medical ethics, and patient-safety standards.
Maintain patient confidentiality and qualified standards of care.

Required Qualifications & Skills
MBBS with relevant postgraduate qualification such as MD/MS/DNB, depending on specialty.
Valid medical registration as required by applicable regulations.
Strong clinical knowledge and diagnostic skills.
Positive communication and patient-counselling skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Valuable documentation and decision-making skills.
Commitment to patient safety and quality healthcare.
