What is the role about?

McGraw-Hill Education, the leading provider of digital and print educational materials is looking for a Lead Specialist, Accessibility.

The Lead Specialist, Accessibility (Lead A11y Specialist) is an expert individual contributor and program‑scale influencer who ensures our digital products, platforms, and content are accessible, compliant, and inclusive. This role supports 2–3 Agile teams; guides end‑to‑end accessibility audits; partners deeply with UX, Engineering, and Product to guide accessible design and implementation; and scales repeatable, shift‑left practices across multiple teams.

The Lead

Specialist supports outcomes for team‑level accessibility, provides final sign‑off for ACR deliverables, and elevates organizational capability through coaching, reusable patterns, and process improvements. They exhibit advanced knowledge of WCAG, Section 508, and ADA; differentiate usability from compliance; anticipate risks; and translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable guidance aligned to business priorities.

What you will be doing:

- Coach product teams on accessible product development, including reviewing and guiding UX design and accessibility annotations, requirements writing, technical implementation, and automated and manual accessibility testing.
- Guide third-party audits of products/applications against WCAG standards from project startup through VPAT completion and finalization.




- Audit products/applications against WCAG standards and for accessibility and provide detailed feedback on remediation required.
- Monitor and assess product teams' accessibility implementation processes, providing guidance on shifting left and the teams’ continuous improvement.
- Plan and participate in accessibility training for product teams, including accessibility content and role-specific training.
- Evaluate industry trends and legislation to incorporate findings into strategic plans.

What you need to be considered:

Education Requirement Bachelor's degree in Human‑Computer Interaction, User Experience, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent experience

Experience Requirement

3+ years of applicable experience

Skills and Experience

Required

- 3+ years experience auditing products/applications against WCAG using both manual and automated testing methods and providing detailed remediation feedback
- 3+ years experience using assistive technology hardware/software, including screen readers, screen magnifiers, Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc.
- 2+ years experience supporting creation of accessibility conformance reports for products/applications
- Advanced knowledge of ADA, WCAG 2.2, and Section 508
- Working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, and CSS and how code choices impact accessibility
- Advanced knowledge of inclusive design, usability and their role in accessibility
- 2+ years experience leading teams with strong attention to detail
- 2+ years experience using JIRA, Confluence
- Ability to advance accessibility through the agile development process

Preferred
- IAAP CPACC and WAS certifications
- Experience in a role on product teams developing software
