We are looking for an experienced Interior Design Manager to lead the design team, manage multiple residential projects, ensure design quality, and coordinate closely with Sales and Execution teams from concept to site implementation.

Role Overview The Interior Design Manager will be responsible for leading the interior design team and managing the complete design lifecycle of residential interior projects—from client brief and concept development to final design approval and execution handover.

The role requires a combination of creative leadership, technical knowledge, client management, team management, and project coordination.

The Design Manager must ensure that designs are aesthetically strong, functionally practical, commercially viable, and accurately communicated to the execution team.

Key Responsibilities

- Design Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and manage the team of Interior Designers.
- Allocate projects to designers based on workload, capability, and project requirements.
- Review designers' work at key stages of every project.
- Establish design standards, processes, and quality benchmarks.
- Conduct regular design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Monitor individual designer performance and productivity.
- Train team members on design standards, materials, software, and client handling.
- Ensure designers follow the company's design process and timelines.
- Client Brief &
- Requirement Understanding
- Ensure detailed understanding of the client's lifestyle, preferences, functional requirements, budget, and expectations.
- Review project requirements before design development begins.
- Ensure all client requirements are properly documented.
- Identify design opportunities, constraints, and potential execution challenges at the initial stage.
- Ensure design proposals are aligned with the client's budget and project scope.
- Concept &
- Design Development
- Oversee development of interior concepts, layouts, colour schemes, material palettes, furniture selections, and design details.
- Ensure designs are aesthetically appealing while remaining functional and practical.
- Review floor plans, furniture layouts, elevations, 3D views, and detailed drawings.
- Ensure consistency of design language throughout the home.
- Encourage innovative and contemporary design solutions while maintaining commercial practicality.
- Ensure designs are suitable for actual site execution.
- Design Quality Control
- Review all major design deliverables before they are presented to clients.
- Ensure accuracy of dimensions, layouts, elevations, materials, finishes, and specifications.
- Check designs for functionality, ergonomics, storage requirements, circulation, and usability.
- Identify design errors before drawings reach the execution stage.
- Maintain Vaastukalpaa's design quality standards across all projects.
- Client Presentation &
- Approval
- Participate in key client meetings and design presentations.
- Support designers in presenting concepts, layouts, 3D designs, materials, and finishes.
- Handle design-related client objections and concerns.
- Guide clients toward practical and commercially viable design decisions.
- Ensure client feedback is captured accurately.
- Manage design revisions and ensure timely approvals.
- Ensure documented approval before moving designs to execution.
- Coordination With Sales Team
- Work closely with the Sales Manager from project handover through design finalisation.
- Review the scope committed to the client during the sales process.




- Ensure the design remains within the approved project scope and commercial framework.
- Identify scope gaps or inconsistencies at an early stage.
- Support the Sales team with design inputs during important client discussions.
- Ensure design proposals support the company's commercial objectives.
- Coordination With Execution Team
- Conduct proper design handover to the Execution Manager / Site Engineer.
- Ensure execution teams receive the latest approved drawings and specifications.
- Clarify design details and resolve technical queries during execution.
- Coordinate with execution teams regarding site feasibility.
- Review design changes arising from actual site conditions.
- Ensure site execution matches approved designs.
- Participate in site visits when required for design clarification or quality review.
- Material &
- Product Selection
- Develop and maintain material and finish palettes suitable for different project budgets.
- Coordinate with procurement and vendors regarding materials, finishes, hardware, lighting, accessories, and other design elements.
- Ensure selected materials are available and commercially viable.
- Ensure material specifications are clearly documented.
- Stay updated on new materials, finishes, hardware, furniture, lighting, and interior design trends.

- Establish design timelines for each project.
- Monitor project progress against agreed design milestones.
- Ensure timely completion of concepts, layouts, 3D views, revisions, working drawings, and final approvals.
- Identify projects at risk of delay and take corrective action.
- Coordinate design priorities across multiple projects.
- Ensure design delays do not impact the overall project execution schedule.

- SOP Development

The Design Manager will be responsible for continuously improving the company's design process.

This Includes

- Establishing standard design workflows.
- Creating design checklists.
- Standardising drawing and documentation formats.
- Developing material libraries.
- Creating reusable design templates.
- Establishing quality-control checkpoints.
- Improving coordination between Sales, Design, Procurement, and Execution.
- Reducing design errors and revision cycles.

The Design Manager should ensure that design decisions are aligned with the approved project budget.

Responsibilities Include

- Understanding project budgets and commercial limitations.
- Selecting materials appropriate to the approved budget.
- Avoiding unnecessary design elements that increase project cost.
- Identifying opportunities for value engineering.
- Coordinating with estimation/procurement teams when design changes affect project cost.
- Ensuring designs are commercially practical and executable.

Candidate Profile

Education

- Bachelor's / Diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field.
- Additional qualifications in design management or project management will be an advantage.

Experience

- 5–10 years of experience in residential interior design.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a team-lead / design-manager / senior designer role preferred.
- Strong experience in turnkey residential interiors.
- Experience managing multiple designers and multiple projects simultaneously.
