3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Site Inspection, Survey & Assessment

- Conduct initial and ongoing site inspections for current and existing HVAC projects
- Carry out detailed site surveys and obtain all information, measurements and technical data necessary for HVAC design and equipment selection
- Assess existing site conditions, building layouts, available services, equipment locations and installation constraints
- Review architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing and other relevant drawings against actual site conditions
- Identify potential technical challenges, clashes, access limitations and installation constraints before finalising the HVAC design

B. Heat Load Calculations & HVAC Engineering

- Carry out accurate heat-load/cooling-load calculations for proposed HVAC systems
- Determine cooling requirements based on relevant factors including room dimensions, occupancy, orientation, glazing, lighting, equipment loads, ventilation requirements, building use and other applicable design conditions
- Calculate required HVAC capacities for individual spaces and overall systems
- Carry out relevant engineering calculations including airflow requirements,

ventilation requirements, duct sizing, pipe sizing and other HVAC design calculations as applicable.
- Select appropriate indoor and outdoor units, AHUs, FCUs, chillers, pumps, fans and other HVAC equipment based on calculated requirements
- Maintain appropriate calculation sheets and supporting technical documentation for each project.

C. HVAC Design & Drawings

- Develop HVAC designs based on client requirements, site conditions, heat-load calculations, specifications and applicable standards.
- Prepare and/or coordinate HVAC drawings including: Equipment layouts, Indoor and outdoor unit layouts, Refrigerant piping layouts, Chilled-water piping layouts,

Ducting layouts, Ventilation layouts, Drainage layouts, Equipment schedules, and other required HVAC drawings.
- Review architectural, structural and other MEP drawings to ensure proper coordination of the HVAC design
- Identify and resolve clashes and coordination issues before installation
- Ensure designs consider installation practicality, accessibility, maintenance requirements, energy efficiency and overall system performance
- Revise drawings in response to site conditions and client/consultant comments

- Maintain appropriate drawing revision control
- Ensure only the latest approved drawings are released for procurement and construction.

D. BOQ Review, Quantity Verification & Material Take-Off

- Review tender and project BOQs against drawings, specifications, calculations and actual project requirements
- Verify whether BOQ equipment capacities and quantities correspond with the HVAC design and calculated requirement

•Identify discrepancies, omissions, overstatements or insufficient quantities within the BOQ

•Calculate and verify quantities of equipment, copper, ducting, piping, insulation, fittings, accessories and other materials required for project completion

•Ensure quantities are verified before procurement to minimise shortages, excess purchasing and wastage

•Update quantities following approved design revisions

•Clearly communicate any difference between tender quantities and actual engineering requirements to management before procurement.

E. Technical Evaluation & Alternative Solutions The HVAC Engineer is expected to actively identify better technical and commercial solutions rather than simply execute the original proposal where an improved solution is available.

Responsibilities include

•Review proposed HVAC systems and determine whether they provide the most appropriate solution for the client's requirements.

•Identify and recommend technically viable alternative HVAC solutions where appropriate.

•Evaluate alternatives based on: Cooling performance and capacity, Energy efficiency, Operating cost, Equipment availability and lead time, Installation complexity, Maintenance requirements, Space limitations, Reliability, Project programme and Client requirements

•Develop value-engineering proposals where an alternative design could reduce project cost, improve performance or simplify installation without compromising required standards.

•Prepare technical comparisons between alternative equipment, manufacturers or HVAC system configurations

•Ensure alternative solutions are properly designed, documented and approved before implementation.

F. Client / Consultant Design Approval

•Prepare all technical submissions required for client and consultant approval

•Submit HVAC designs, heat-load calculations, drawings, equipment schedules, technical data sheets and other supporting documentation

•Respond promptly to client and consultant comments or technical queries

•Revise designs and documentation where necessary to obtain approval

•Proactively follow up outstanding technical submissions and approvals to avoid delays.

•Obtain required written approval for designs, drawings, equipment selections and material submissions before procurement or installation where approval is required

G. Equipment Selection, Costing & Procurement Support

•Prepare accurate equipment and material schedules based on approved designs

•Select equipment models and capacities based on engineering calculations and approved project requirements

•Assist the Sales, Projects and Procurement teams with technical information required for project costing and quotations

•Assist in obtaining and evaluating quotations from manufacturers and suppliers

•Review technical submissions and supplier quotations to verify compliance with project requirements

•Conduct technical comparisons between proposed manufacturers, models and systems

•Liaise directly with manufacturers and suppliers regarding technical selections where required

•Verify model numbers, capacities, quantities, accessories and specifications before an order is placed

•Review Proforma Invoices and supplier order confirmations from a technical perspective

•Ensure orders correspond with the latest approved design, approved technical submittal, BOQ and verified quantities.

•Immediately identify and escalate discrepancies before an order is confirmed.

H. Project Planning & Site Execution

•Determine labour, materials, equipment, tools and other resources required for project execution

•Supervise HVAC installation activities at assigned project sites.

•Provide technical direction to technicians, subcontractors and site personnel

•Ensure installation is undertaken strictly in accordance with approved drawings and specifications

•Monitor site progress against the approved programme

•Resolve technical issues encountered during installation

•Where site conditions prevent installation in accordance with the approved design, develop an appropriate technical solution and obtain required approval before implementation

•Coordinate HVAC works with civil, architectural, electrical, plumbing, fire-fighting and other relevant disciplines.

I. Quality Control & Site Inspections

•Conduct regular site inspections throughout project execution

•Inspect HVAC installations for compliance with approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer recommendations and workmanship requirements

•Verify equipment locations, ductwork, piping, insulation, drainage, supports and other installation components.

J. Testing, Commissioning & Performance Verification

•Develop and coordinate testing and commissioning requirements

•Supervise testing and commissioning of HVAC systems including, as applicable, VRV/VRF systems, split systems, AHUs, FCUs, chillers, pumps and ventilation systems
