Human Resources Generalist

Company: Surpluss / WSYS Platform Private Limited

Location: Pune — Work from Office

Experience: 2–4 years

Employment Type: Full-time

Salary: Industry Standard, based on experience

About Surpluss

Surpluss is a B2B platform helping businesses source products and services at significantly better prices by connecting them with brands, manufacturers, distributors and surplus inventory.

We are a growing company building a high-performance team, and we are looking for an HR Generalist who can take ownership of the HR function and help us build the people processes required to scale.

The Role

We are looking for an HR Generalist who can independently own HR end-to-end — from finding and hiring great people to onboarding, payroll coordination, employee management and HR operations.

You will work directly with the founders and department heads and will be responsible for making HR work efficiently as the company grows.

There is no HR lead above you for day-to-day guidance. We are looking for someone who can take ownership, make judgment calls, solve problems independently and build processes rather than simply execute instructions.

This is an ideal role for someone who wants to grow into a People/HR Manager role in a fast-growing company.

Key Responsibilities

1. Recruitment & Talent Acquisition

- Understand hiring requirements from founders and department heads.
- Create compelling job descriptions and hiring briefs.
- Source candidates through LinkedIn, Naukri, referrals, job portals and other channels.
- Screen CVs and conduct initial HR interviews.
- Evaluate candidates for communication, culture fit, motivation and role suitability.
- Coordinate interviews and maintain a structured candidate pipeline.
- Manage candidate communication and follow-ups throughout the hiring process.
- Handle offer discussions, negotiations and joining coordination.
- Build and maintain a talent pipeline for recurring and future positions.
- Track hiring metrics such as time-to-hire, source of hire and offer-to-joining ratio.

2. Employee Onboarding & Lifecycle

- Own the end-to-end onboarding process for recent employees.
- Collect and verify employee documentation.
- Prepare joining documentation, employee records and HR files.
- Coordinate with relevant teams to ensure employees have the required access,

equipment and information on joining.
- Conduct or coordinate employee induction.
- Explain company policies, processes and expectations to new employees.
- Track probation periods, confirmations, notice periods and other employee milestones.
- Conduct regular check-ins with new employees during their initial months.

3. HR Operations & Payroll

- Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases.
- Manage attendance, leave and employee information.
- Coordinate monthly payroll inputs and ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Maintain salary, leave, attendance and employee documentation.
- Coordinate with external payroll/accounting consultants where required.
- Support statutory and HR compliance requirements.
- Maintain HR documentation and ensure processes are followed consistently.
- Prepare regular HR MIS and management reports.
- Identify gaps in HR operations and implement improvements.

4. Employee Engagement & Culture

- Act as the first point of contact for employees for HR-related queries.
- Build a strong relationship with employees across teams.
- Understand employee concerns and work with managers/founders to resolve them.
- Organise employee engagement activities, celebrations and team initiatives.
- Help build a positive, accountable and high-performance work culture.
- Support employee feedback and engagement initiatives.

5. HR Policies & Process Building

You will play an important role in building the HR function as Surpluss scales.

This includes

- Recruitment and interview processes
- Employee onboarding and exit processes
- Leave and attendance policies
- HR policies and employee documentation
- Performance review processes
- Employee engagement programs
- HR dashboards and MIS
- Employee grievance and escalation processes
- HR systems and automation

The expectation is not just to maintain existing processes, but to identify what is missing and build better systems. What We're Looking for Must Have

- 2–4 years of experience in HR / People Operations.

- Experience handling end-to-end recruitment independently.
- Experience coordinating monthly payroll and maintaining accurate payroll inputs.
- Experience managing employee onboarding and HR operations.
- Comfortable working with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to confidently interact with candidates, employees, managers and founders.
- Strong organisational and follow-up skills.
- Comfortable handling multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Good working knowledge of Excel / Google Sheets.
- Strong attention to detail and confidentiality.
- High ownership and accountability.
- Ability to solve problems independently rather than constantly escalate them.

Good to Have

- Experience working in a startup or fast-growing company.
- Familiarity with LinkedIn, Naukri and other recruitment platforms.
- Experience with HRMS / payroll software.
- Understanding of Indian employment and HR practices.
- Experience building HR policies and processes from scratch.
- Experience handling employee performance management or appraisal cycles.

What We're Looking for in the Person

This role is not for someone looking for a purely administrative HR position.

You should be someone who:

- Takes ownership without being chased.
- Can have difficult conversations professionally.
- Is comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility for them.
- Can balance employee needs with business requirements.
- Notices problems before they become bigger problems.
- Is highly organised and follows through.
- Can work in an environment where processes are still being built.
- Enjoys building things rather than simply following established systems.
- Wants to grow with the company and eventually take larger ownership of the HR function.

What You'll Get

- Direct exposure to the founders and leadership team.
- Ownership of the HR function as the company scales.
- Opportunity to build HR systems and processes from the ground up.
- Exposure to recruitment, people operations, employee engagement and organisational development.
- Significant opportunity to grow into a People/HR Manager role.

Please fill out the Google Form carefully. The details provided will be considered for future work opportunities.
