The company is strengthening its technology capabilities and developing a recent generation of precision Pan-Tilt Units and stabilised electro-mechanical systems for defence applications. The selected leader will have the opportunity to build a world-class Motion Systems capability and create a sustainable technology platform for future defence programmes.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on technology leadership role for an engineering professional with deep expertise in robotics, precision motion control, servo systems and systems engineering.
The incumbent will lead the complete development of Pan-Tilt Units and related precision motion systemsfrom system architecture and controls to electronics, embedded software, sensor integration, validation and product release.
The role will also involve building and leading a multidisciplinary engineering team while collaborating closely with Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end design and development of Pan-Tilt Units and stabilised electro-mechanical systems.
- Define system architecture, technical documentation, validation and product-release processes.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams across embedded software, electronics and PCB design.
- Develop high-performance motor controllers, system controllers and real-time control software.
- Apply advanced control techniques including PID, LQR, Model Predictive Control (MPC) and Kalman Filtering for precision stabilisation, disturbance rejection and target tracking.
- Lead integration of IMUs, GNSS, digital compasses, accelerometers, EO payloads, thermal imagers, laser rangefinders,
radar and LiDAR into robust sensor-fusion architectures.
- Establish strong systems-engineering, design-review and product-development processes.
- Build and mentor a high-performing engineering team capable of delivering reliable, production-ready products.
Critical Skills & Competencies

Candidates should demonstrate strong hands-on expertise in:
- Robotics and precision motion systems
- Servo and motor-control systems
- Control systems and mechatronics
- Real-time embedded systems
- Embedded electronics and system integration
- Sensor fusion and precision pointing/tracking
- MATLAB/Simulink and model-based control development
- Multidisciplinary engineering leadership
Prior Pan-Tilt Unit experience is desirable but not mandatory. We will prioritise demonstrated technical excellence in robotics, precision servo control, embedded systems, mechatronics and sensor fusion over specific prior Pan-Tilt experience.
Preferred Candidate Profile
We are particularly interested in professionals with 1525 years of experience developing robotics, motion-control systems, servo systems, autonomous platforms or precision electro-mechanical products within:
Defence & Aerospace | Industrial Automation | Advanced Robotics | UAV / Autonomous Systems | Precision Motion-Control Organisations The candidate should ideally have experience leading a multidisciplinary engineering team and possess the technical depth required to personally review architecture, control strategies, system performance and engineering decisions.
