General Ledger — Senior Manager | Vantrock Real Assets Private Limited | Mumbai Metropolitan Region
Own the ledger and the close for every entity on a real assets platform — a dozen now, more each year — with GST, TDS and statutory audit run in-house, not through a firm. The books as a discipline, not a service.
A note before you read on. The team structure, reporting lines, direct reports, seat titles and hiring entity described in this brief reflect the platform's current plan and may change as the platform builds out. Compensation and incentive structures are confirmed in the offer, not here.
REPORTS TO: General Manager — Finance & Accounts · EXPERIENCE: 8–12 years in general ledger, close and statutory compliance, most of it at a real estate developer
ABOUT VANTROCK
Vantrock is India's independent, operator-led real assets platform — real assets only — with logistics and industrial as the first phase of its growth.
Founded by Anshul Singhal, Founder & CEO, who has built three institutional platforms from zero and is building the fourth on his own capital: 52 million sq ft delivered (32 million as developer, 20 million as contractor), 2,000+ acres acquired, 200+ buildings, two SEBI Category II funds run to a successful close, India's first domestic warehousing AIF and India's largest industrial real estate exit — delivered across the founder's three prior platforms.
THE FINANCE & ACCOUNTS TEAM
Vantrock keeps its books in-house. The finance function owns every number from the site to the board.
Twenty-one seats when fully built; sixteen live now, one of them already filled. Small enough that every person in it is known by name to the founder; large enough to run a platform properly. Every seat in the team is a builder's seat: the function does not exist yet in the form described here, and the people who join it now are the ones who will decide what it becomes.
ONE LEDGER, MANY ENTITIES, ONE CALENDAR A real assets platform is a set of entities: the development company, a sponsor vehicle, an investment manager, and a project entity for every asset — a dozen now, more each year. Each has a ledger, a close, a GST registration, a set of statutory accounts and an audit. Most developers hand this to a firm and receive it back late.
Vantrock keeps it in-house, so that the close is on a calendar the platform controls and the number the founder sees at month-end is the number the auditor signs at year-end.
WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS The decision to keep the books in-house means somebody has to actually keep them. Payables has its own ladder; project accounting sits with the General Manager; the forecast is the Financial Controller's. What remains — the ledger itself, the journals, the reconciliations, the close, the filings and the audit — needs one senior owner who treats a missed filing date as a personal failure and a late close as a problem to fix at the root. That person is not in the building yet.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- The ledger. General ledger for every entity — chart of accounts maintained, journals reviewed, intercompany reconciled, fixed assets and capital work-in-progress tracked — on one system of record.
- The close. Every entity closed monthly on the calendar the General Manager sets — reconciliations complete, schedules prepared, review points cleared — and handed up on the same working day each month.
- GST and TDS. Registrations, returns,
reconciliations to the ledger and to vendors' filings, and notices — filed and closed from this desk, in-house, on time.
- Statutory accounts and audit. Financial statements prepared for every entity; the audit planned, run and closed to a clean opinion; findings cleared at the root, not re-explained next year.
- Intercompany and the group view. Every balance between entities agreed monthly; the consolidated view prepared for the CFO with nothing eliminated that should not be, and nothing left that should.
- The fund's entities. As project entities come to be co-owned with the platform's proposed Category II AIF, their books kept to a standard the fund's administrator can reconcile to without adjustment.
- The standard. Every schedule, reconciliation and working paper to a standard that a new joiner could pick up cold — so that when the platform adds to the ledger team, the discipline is already written down.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
ESSENTIAL
– 8–12 years in general ledger, close and statutory compliance, of which the greater part at a real estate developer — where capital work-in-progress, project entities and intercompany were the daily material.
– A multi-entity monthly close owned end to end: a group of five or more entities, closed on a calendar, reconciled and reviewed under your name.
– GST and TDS returns filed by you, not through a firm — registrations, returns, reconciliations, notices.
– Statutory accounts prepared and an audit run to sign-off under your management, more than once.
– Fluent in an ERP or accounting system as the single book of record, and comfortable moving a group onto one.
– A Bachelor's degree in commerce. A Chartered Accountant or CA-Inter is preferred; a commerce graduate with a robust multi-entity filings record qualifies.
– Based in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT
– Not a controller's seat in the forecasting sense. The forecast, the budget-against-actual challenge and the Asset Review belong to the Financial Controller.
– Not a payables or receivables seat. Those ladders have their own heads. This seat owns what they hand up.
– Not a firm-management seat. The books are ours; the auditor is the only firm you will command.
HOW YOU WILL WORK
– The books are in-house. Statutory audit sits with the auditor; everything else is done here.
– One system of record. The close calendar and every schedule live on the operating layer, not in a private spreadsheet.
– Judgment is written down. Every reconciling item has an owner and a date; every audit finding has a root cause and a fix.
– Mumbai Metropolitan Region, full-time, in person.
COMPENSATION
Vantrock benchmarks compensation against the upper quartile for the role and market, weighted toward equity for candidates who want to build with us long-term. We discuss specific numbers in the first conversation rather than anchoring either side prematurely.
Wealth creation is part of the engine, not only the salary: a performance-linked annual bonus,
and a path to ESOP-linked incentives as the seat grows — priced to the seat and confirmed in the offer.
CULTURAL FIT
We're building Vantrock over a decade, not a funding cycle. We're looking for people who treat technology as the default answer rather than a supplement, who want to be co-builders of the platform rather than employees executing instructions, and who are comfortable saying "I don't know" and "I was wrong." If you want a defined role with defined edges, this isn't the right seat. If you want to help build an institution from zero, it might be.
AI proficiency is a standing requirement in every Vantrock seat. You work fluently with AI tools for research, modelling, drafting and analysis, and you build on the platform's dashboards rather than around them. A supervised AI Proficiency Test is part of the process for every seat, at every level of seniority, and we say so openly.
Partner command is the second standing requirement. The books are ours, but auditors, banks, the fund administrator, valuers, law firms and system vendors are commanded by this team — briefed, held to a standard, integrated — never deferred to. We hire for judgment and accountability.
HOW WE WILL ASSESS
Everyone who applies hears from us within two working days. It carries two links: a fixed set of six questions answered by AI interview — about forty minutes, and the first work sample; we review it before the CV — and the Vantrock AI Proficiency Test, which every hire takes at every level. From there:
- The Close conversation. The group you closed: entities, calendar, systems, the audit finding that took longest to clear and why. With the General Manager — Finance & Accounts.
- A two-hour supervised practical. A trial balance for three related entities with planted errors — intercompany mismatches, a mis-capitalised cost, a GST input that does not reconcile — from which you produce the close schedules, the adjustments and the notes. Reviewed with the General Manager.
- References. One statutory auditor and one former reporting manager, contacted directly.
Once we have received your application, your AI interview and your test, we will reach out with next steps. Your application is confidential: it is seen only by the Founder's Office and the hiring lead, and nothing is shared with your current employer or referenced without your consent.
TO APPLY
Write to
[email protected] with the subject line "General Ledger — Senior Manager — [your name]", and attach:
– Your CV. This is mandatory — a LinkedIn profile alone is not an application; we will read your LinkedIn as well.
– Your Close Sheet — one row per group or entity whose ledger you owned: entity type, number of entities, monthly close in working days, filings handled, audit outcome, system, years, your role. The template is available on request.
– Your notice period and what you would need to see to move.
– One short paragraph: the reconciling item that most often survives a developer's month-end close unresolved, and how you would make sure it never survives yours. That paragraph matters more than the CV.
We read everything that arrives with a Close Sheet and a paragraph — properly, not skimmed. If this sounds like your seat, write to us.
We don't hire roles. We build the platform. · Ownership, not employment. · Builders hire builders.
