Director – Chemicals, Materials & Natural Resources
Reports to: Global Practice Head – Chemicals, Materials & Natural Resources

About the Role
FutureBridge is seeking a hands-on, commercially ambitious consulting leader to help grow and strengthen its Chemicals, Materials & Natural Resources practice.
The Director will create and convert consulting opportunities, lead senior client relationships and strategic engagements, and develop a stronger and increasingly independent consulting team. The role is suited to someone who combines technical and commercial credibility with the ability to win and deliver high-quality advisory work.
Business development is a core accountability. The Director will create opportunities through client relationships, referrals, network activation, targeted senior outreach and relevant market insight.
CNR advises clients across growth and portfolio strategy, market entry, innovation commercialisation, competitiveness, procurement and supply resilience, industrial decarbonisation, circularity and regulatory change.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial and Client Growth
- Own the profitable growth of a portfolio of priority clients, prospects and market areas.
- Build trusted senior executive relationships and advise clients on the strategic, technical and commercial issues affecting their businesses.
- Identify important client needs and translate them into differentiated, commercially viable consulting engagements.
- Lead solution design, proposal strategy, executive presentations, pricing discussions and engagement conversion.
- Expand existing accounts through adjacent opportunities, follow-on work and long-term relationship development.
- Work with Sales and Marketing on target accounts, campaigns, outreach and disciplined opportunity follow-up.
- Deliver agreed objectives for revenue, conversion, account growth, repeat business and project economics.
Engagement and Team Leadership
- Lead important consulting engagements from problem definition through analysis, recommendations and executive communication.
- Translate ambiguous client questions into clear hypotheses, analytical frameworks, workplans and decision-focused outputs.
- Develop persuasive executive narratives that connect technical, market and commercial evidence to client priorities.
- Set high standards for analytical quality, commercial relevance, written communication and client delivery.
- Provide active senior direction and quality assurance on critical workstreams and deliverables.
- Manage scope, staffing, timelines, client expectations, project economics and delivery risk.
- Lead, coach and develop Consultants and Analysts across international and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strengthen the team’s problem-solving, commercial thinking, executive communication and client-engagement capabilities while building greater independence.
- Support performance management, career development and succession planning.
Practice and Market Development
- Develop consulting propositions that respond to problems clients are actively prioritising and funding.
- Turn market developments and client conversations into distinctive perspectives, thought leadership and new consulting opportunities.
- Work with Marketing to translate expert insight into credible campaigns and stronger market visibility.
- Contribute to FutureBridge’s consulting methods, knowledge assets and intellectual property.
- Use AI and other digital tools pragmatically to improve commercial and consulting workflows.
Essential Experience and Capabilities
- Progressively senior experience in consulting, strategic advisory, techno-commercial consulting, custom research,
market intelligence, corporate strategy, innovation or a closely related field.
- Significant experience in chemicals, advanced materials, natural resources or an adjacent industrial sector, with recognised technical and commercial expertise in at least one relevant area.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to engage credibly with technical, commercial and strategic leaders on complex products, processes, applications and industrial value chains.
- Evidence of shaping and winning complex consulting or advisory engagements, developing senior-client relationships and growing accounts.
- Strong experience leading multidisciplinary engagements and producing practical, decision-relevant recommendations.
- Robust commercial judgement across pricing, scope, negotiation, project economics and account development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication for senior client audiences.
- Experience coaching consultants, improving delivery quality and developing greater team independence.
Desirable Experience
- A relevant postgraduate qualification, such as a master’s degree, MBA or doctorate.
- An established network within relevant CNR industries and experience developing new accounts or selectively originating new-logo work.
- Experience in a specialist, mid-sized or growing consulting business.
- Practical experience applying AI and digital tools to consulting and commercial work.
