About The Role The Senior Data Scientist I at Chubb India plays a pivotal role in driving advanced analytics initiatives that support strategic decision-making and operational excellence. This position involves working closely with global business partners to develop innovative models and solutions utilizing the latest in artificial intelligence,
machine learning, and natural language processing. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and effective communication skills to translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying scalable models that automate and optimize core insurance processes such as risk assessment, claims processing, and research activities. The role also involves staying abreast of emerging trends in AI and ML, mentoring junior team members, and collaborating across departments to ensure the successful implementation of data-driven solutions.
As a thought leader, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of our analytics framework, develop reusable assets, and foster a culture of innovation. Your efforts will directly impact Chubb’s ability to deliver exceptional value to its customers and maintain its position as a global industry leader.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in data science, machine learning, and statistics, with a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in developing AI solutions. Proficiency in Python, SQL, and working with relational and NoSQL databases is essential. Experience in building NLP, GenAI, large language models, and agentic AI solutions is highly desirable, along with familiarity with prompt engineering and evaluation strategies.
Candidates should have experience working with cloud platforms such as Databricks and knowledge of big data technologies. Familiarity with ML libraries like scikit-learn, MLlib, and related frameworks is required. Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to handle unstructured data,
and develop scalable pipelines are critical.
Excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and experience in Agile development practices will be advantageous. A bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field is mandatory, with prior experience in the insurance or regulated industries considered a plus.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with global business partners to define project scope, gather requirements, and manage deliverables within set timelines.
- Utilize a broad spectrum of NLP, machine learning, deep learning, and GenAI techniques to extract meaningful features from unstructured data sources.
- Perform data validation, preprocessing, and exploratory data analysis to ensure data quality and integrity.
- Design, develop, and implement models that automate key insurance processes such as risk identification, claims processing, and research activities.
- Ensure models meet performance KPIs post-deployment by conducting thorough testing and validation.
- Create explainable data pipelines using descriptive and inferential statistics, ensuring transparency and interpretability of models.
- Develop adaptable modeling frameworks and reusable assets applicable across multiple projects and domains.
- Propose innovative solutions and novel approaches to solve complex business challenges, positioning yourself as a thought leader in the field.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI and machine learning, integrating new methodologies into existing workflows.
- Handle stakeholder requests independently, managing multiple projects with dynamic priorities effectively.
- Communicate complex technical insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through reports, presentations, and discussions.
- Mentor and coach junior team members, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster team growth.
- Deepen understanding of Chubb’s business operations and develop expertise across various lines of insurance business.
