About the Role

Cosmereg is seeking an experienced Regulatory Toxicologist to support the safety and regulatory assessment of cosmetics, personal-care products, dietary supplements and related consumer products intended for the United States, California, European Union and United Kingdom.

The successful candidate must have practical experience conducting toxicological risk assessments, evaluating ingredient and impurity exposure, and preparing clear, scientifically defensible regulatory reports.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct toxicological safety and exposure assessments for ingredients, impurities, contaminants and finished products.
- Perform California Proposition 65 assessments, including:
- Screening substances against the current Proposition 65 list.
- Calculating daily exposure based on substance concentration and reasonably anticipated product use.
- Comparing exposure with applicable NSRLs and MADLs.
- Deriving or critically evaluating exposure levels where no official safe-harbour level exists.
- Preparing documented weight-of-evidence assessments and warning recommendations.
- Review ingredients and products for compliance with:
- US FDA cosmetic requirements, including MoCRA.
- California Proposition 65 and relevant state requirements.
- EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009.
- UK Cosmetics Regulation and applicable guidance.
- Canada Cosmetic Regulations and applicabel guidance




- Review toxicological information from scientific literature, supplier documents, safety data sheets, certificates of analysis and analytical reports.
- Assess heavy metals, residual solvents, process contaminants, fragrance constituents, botanical impurities, CMR substances and restricted ingredients.
- Prepare and review:
- Cosmetic Product Safety Reports and toxicological profiles.
- Systemic Exposure Dosage and Margin of Safety calculations.
- California Proposition 65 assessment reports.
- Ingredient regulatory assessments.
- Scientific justifications and client-facing technical responses.
- Recommend appropriate analytical testing, detection limits and risk-mitigation measures.
- Monitor relevant toxicological and regulatory developments in the US, California, EU and UK.

Required Qualifications
- Masters degree or PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a closely related discipline.
- At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in regulatory toxicology or product safety.
- Demonstrable experience conducting California Proposition 65 exposure assessments—not only screening substances against the Proposition 65 list.




- Good knowledge of US FDA, EU and UK cosmetic or consumer-product regulations.
- Experience calculating systemic exposure, daily intake and margins of safety.
- Ability to critically review toxicological studies and prepare scientifically defensible conclusions.
- Solid written English and the ability to explain complex scientific findings clearly.

Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as DABT, ERT or an equivalent toxicology qualification.
- Qualification or practical experience as an EU/UK cosmetic safety assessor.
- Experience with cosmetics, dietary supplements, OTC products, fragrances or other consumer products.
- Familiarity with OEHHA risk-assessment methodology and the derivation of exposure levels for substances without established safe-harbour levels.
- Experience with PubMed, ECHA, SCCS, CIR, EPA IRIS, NTP, IARC and OEHHA sources.
