Business Development Manager — Institutional Sales (HR & Edtech Partnerships)
Scowter Hybrid (India) · Full time
Scowter runs job hunts for people. Candidates hand us their search and we handle there entire job hunt
This role is about selling it to organisations instead.
WHAT YOU'D BE SELLING, AND TO WHOM
Three buyers, all with the same problem — people who need jobs and nobody with the bandwidth to place them:
- Pay-after-placement bootcamps and edtechs. Every unplaced graduate is
revenue they've earned and can't collect. You'd sell us as the placement engine, priced per head.
- Companies going through layoffs. Outplacement / career transition support
for exiting employees. WARN filings and layoff trackers give us the list 60 days ahead of time.
- Immigration and overseas-career consultancies. Their clients have already
paid lakhs for a PR route and the missing piece is a job offer.
- Staffing and outplacement firms who hold enterprise contracts they're thin
on actually delivering. We deliver white-label underneath them. Deal sizes run from a few lakh to Rs 30L+. This is a four-signatures-a-quarter job, not a hundred-calls-a-day job.
WHAT THE WORK ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
- Build the target list yourself and keep it clean. We have the tooling for
contact data; you decide who's worth calling.
- Open cold — email, LinkedIn, phone — to Heads of Placement, Career Services,
CHROs, VP People, and founders at smaller schools.
- Run the whole cycle: first meeting,
pilot design, pricing, negotiation,
signature. The founder will join closing calls when it helps, but this is yours end to end.
- Start with a small paid or success-fee pilot, prove the numbers, then convert
to a per-head retainer. Getting that second conversation right is most of the job.
- Log everything. If it isn't in the CRM it didn't happen — we run more than one
sales channel and territory overlap is a real risk.
WHO ACTUALLY FITS
- 3+ years selling a B2B service (not a product licence) into HR, education, or
staffing. Concretely: institutional or corporate sales at an edtech, BD at a recruitment/staffing/outplacement firm, or corporate sales at an immigration consultancy.
- You've closed deals where the buyer had no existing budget line for what you
were selling, and you had to create one.
- Comfortable being the only salesperson in the room, with no marketing team
feeding you leads and no deck to hide behind.
- You can write a cold email that a founder replies to. We'll ask you to.
Not a fit if your experience is SaaS seat-based selling, inside sales on inbound leads only, or managing a team rather than carrying a number yourself.
COMPENSATION
Rs 25000 / Monthly fixed, plus 8-10% of contract value on everything you close,
uncapped. A single mid-sized bootcamp deal pays out Rs 2.5L+. We'd rather pay you well on real contracts than pay a big base for activity.
