About The Role FM is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Engineer to spearhead growth initiatives within its fire protection and building materials segments across India and the Middle East. The successful candidate will be instrumental in identifying new market opportunities, fostering robust relationships with manufacturers and stakeholders, and supporting product certification initiatives.

This role involves engaging with industry players, representing FM at various industry events, and promoting the value of FM Approvals certification to enhance market penetration.

The Business Development

Engineer will also contribute to certification projects by providing technical expertise and ensuring compliance with regional regulatory requirements.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of five years of relevant experience, preferably in business development, technical sales, or marketing within the fire protection industry.





Experience in other industrial sectors may also be considered if complemented by a strong technical background. Candidates should have the ability to translate complex certification requirements into compelling value propositions for clients. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, disciplined follow-up, and lead management capabilities are essential.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office, are required. Prior experience working or traveling in the Middle East is advantageous. Familiarity with product certification processes, fire protection products, and FM Standards will be considered a plus.

Responsibilities

- Drive business development efforts across India and the Middle East to increase the adoption of FM Approved products and certifications.
- Identify, qualify, and engage manufacturers, influencing decision-makers to pursue FM Approvals certification for their products.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, end-users, regulatory authorities, and industry stakeholders to foster trust and collaboration.
- Represent FM Approvals at industry seminars, conferences, and trade shows, delivering technical presentations and demonstrating thought leadership.




- Stay informed of evolving regulatory and certification requirements in the Indian and Middle Eastern markets to ensure compliance and strategic alignment.
- Travel as required, including overnight stays, to support customer engagements and participate in industry events, with an estimated travel commitment of approximately 40%.
- Contribute to certification projects through activities such as project scoping, auditing, witnessing, documentation, and reporting to ensure rigorous standards are met.
- Develop and apply technical expertise across engineering and scientific disciplines to support internal teams and external customers, enhancing the value delivered through FM’s certification services.
