About The Role The Senior Staff Accountant at Emergence plays a pivotal role in establishing and maintaining scalable financial accounting practices across multiple SaaS businesses within our portfolio. This position involves managing the complete month-end closing process, ensuring compliance with U.S.
GAAP standards, and providing detailed variance analysis to support strategic decision-making. The role requires a proactive individual capable of mentoring junior team members, identifying process improvements, and partnering closely with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A;) teams to develop accurate budgets and forecasts.
The Senior Staff
Accountant will be instrumental in building a robust financial infrastructure that supports the rapid growth and operational efficiency of our portfolio companies.
Qualifications Ideal candidates will possess advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly in SaaS revenue recognition including ASC 606 and deferred revenue management. Proven experience leading month-end close cycles independently and preparing comprehensive financial statements is essential.
Candidates should demonstrate strong proficiency in Excel, including financial modeling, Power Query, VLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, and scenario analysis. Hands-on experience with modern ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 is required. Additionally, candidates should have excellent variance analysis skills, with the ability to interpret financial results in a business context for non-accountants.
Prior experience mentoring junior accountants and implementing process improvements with measurable outcomes will be highly valued.
Preferred qualifications include a CA or CMA qualification, with 2-3+ years of experience in PE-backed environments or portfolio company accounting.
Responsibilities
- Execute the complete month-end close process, including revenue recognition, deferred revenue adjustments, and accruals, adhering to U.S. GAAP standards.
- Document all balance sheet variances exceeding $50,000 with detailed explanations linked to operational drivers to ensure transparency and accuracy.
- Conduct variance analysis across monthly, quarterly, and annual budget cycles, identifying root causes and providing actionable insights for management.
- Collaborate with FP&A; teams to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and reforecasts that accurately reflect accruals, working capital, and operational dynamics.
- Mentor and guide junior staff accountants on complex accounting entries,
reconciliation methodologies, and U.S. GAAP compliance to foster team development.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, develop documented ROI analyses, and implement solutions across the accounting function to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Ensure all large variances are thoroughly documented and reviewed before sign-off, maintaining high standards of financial integrity.
- Assist in audit preparations, ensuring all documentation and processes meet regulatory and internal standards.
