About Projectitude
Projectitude is a premium academic and creative services studio that has been delivering high-quality projects for university students across the UK, Australia, US, and Canada for over 10 years. We work with 3D artists, designers, and specialists across disciplines to help students produce portfolio-grade coursework in fields like game design, animation, architecture, and interactive media.
We're currently expanding our roster of freelance 3D environment artists to support upcoming university-level 3D modelling briefs, primarily from Australian institutions (Monash, RMIT, SAE, Torrens).
The Opportunity
We're looking for a skilled freelance 3D environment artist to join our project-based freelancer network. This is a flexible, remote role — you take on projects as they arise, work to briefs we provide, and deliver polished 3D dioramas and environment assets built through the industry-standard Maya → Substance Painter → Unity pipeline.
Ongoing opportunities available for artists who consistently deliver quality work on time.
What You'll Do
- Design and model original stylised 3D dioramas and environments in Autodesk Maya — clean topology, productive UV unwrapping, well-organised scene hierarchies
- Create custom PBR texture sets in Adobe Substance Painter — Albedo, Normal, Roughness, Metallic, and Emission maps
- Import assets into Unity, set up materials, thematic energetic lighting, reflection probes, and export final Windows builds (.exe)
- Produce accompanying process documentation with reference images, screenshots, and clear written explanations of your workflow
- Follow project briefs carefully — meet all technical requirements around geometry, textures, lighting, and scene composition
- Maintain skilled communication and hit agreed deadlines
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Intermediate-to-advanced proficiency in Autodesk Maya — modelling, UV mapping, scene management
- Confident with Adobe Substance Painter — full PBR texturing workflow across all standard map types
- Working knowledge of Unity 3D — material setup, lighting, reflection probes, building executables for Windows
- Strong sense of composition, colour theory, and visual storytelling
- Portfolio demonstrating environment art, dioramas, or stylised prop work using this exact pipeline
- Ability to write explicit process documentation in English
- Reliable communication and ability to meet deadlines
Nice to Have:
- Experience with URP or HDRP render pipelines
- Familiarity with Unity 2022 LTS or newer
- Background in game art, animation, or architectural visualisation
- Prior experience with Australian or UK university game-design briefs
Project Details
- Engagement type: Freelance / project-based (not full-time)
- Location: Remote — work from anywhere
- Compensation: Project-based, discussed per brief. Typical projects range from USD $100 to $400+ depending on scope, complexity, and turnaround
- Turnaround: Usually 5–10 days per project
- Volume: Multiple projects per month for consistent performers
How to Apply
Please send the following to
[email protected]:
1. Portfolio link (ArtStation preferred) — highlight dioramas, environments, or prop sets built in Maya + Substance Painter + Unity
2. A brief note confirming your experience with all three tools
3. Your rate expectations (per project or per day)
4. Timezone and typical weekly availability
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a short intro chat and may be given a small paid test project to confirm fit. Note: All work must be original and produced by you personally. No AI-generated 3D assets, no downloaded models, no downloaded textures. Portfolio verification and process transparency required for all projects.
