Role Description This is a part time, remote AP Biology Mentor role focused on supporting high school students preparing for AP Biology coursework and exams. The mentor will conduct online tutoring sessions, explain complex biological concepts in a clear and accessible way, and guide learners through practice questions, lab-based scenarios, and exam-style problems. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing student understanding, creating or adapting lesson plans and study materials, providing constructive feedback on assignments, and monitoring progress over time.

The mentor will also communicate regularly with learners (and, when appropriate, families) to align on goals, recommend study strategies,



and encourage consistent engagement and academic growth.

Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of AP Biology curriculum, including cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, and physiology, and familiarity with College Board exam format.
- Previous experience tutoring or teaching biology or related science subjects, preferably at the high school or AP level.
- Ability to explain complex scientific concepts in simple, engaging terms and adapt instruction to different learning styles.
- Comfort with online teaching tools and platforms, including video conferencing, digital whiteboards, and shared documents.
- Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills, with a patient and encouraging mentoring approach.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to plan sessions, track progress, and maintain consistency with part-time remote work.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biology, Life Sciences, or a closely related field; advanced coursework or teaching certification is an advantage.
- Commitment to educational equity, inclusivity, and supportive learning environments for students from diverse backgrounds.
