Role Summary

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, distributed systems, microservices, and AWS cloud technologies. The engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, scaling, and supporting highly available backend services and APIs for customer-facing applications. The role requires solid ownership of backend architecture, application performance, production reliability, security, observability, and cloud-native engineering practices. Experience with React frontend development and/or Java/Spring Boot is beneficial but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Build reliable, secure, and highly available microservice-based and distributed applications.
- Design and implement efficient data models and access patterns using Amazon DynamoDB.
- Build cloud-native and event-driven backend solutions using AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, S3, SQS, API Gateway, and CloudWatch.
- Develop asynchronous processing workflows, background jobs, integrations, and messaging-based architectures.
- Define backend architecture, service boundaries, API contracts, data flows, and relationships between distributed components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex customer-facing and production issues across backend services and cloud infrastructure.
- Proactively identify and address issues related to performance, scalability, stability, security, availability, and extensibility.
- Participate actively in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews.
- Ensure backend services meet defined standards for performance, reliability,



security, maintainability, and quality.
- Write automated unit, integration, API, and service-level tests.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production applications using logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerts.
- Maintain high availability and demonstrate strong ownership of customer trust and production reliability.
- Support and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, containerization, and deployment processes.
- Collaborate with product managers, quality engineers, architects, and globally distributed engineering teams.
- Work in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
- Take end-to-end ownership of backend features throughout the complete software development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation through deployment and production support.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to backend engineering standards, development practices, and architectural guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

- 7+ years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 5 years of strong backend development experience.
- Strong hands-on programming experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
- Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, backend services, and microservice-based applications.
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented principles, software design patterns, and architectural principles.
- Experience designing scalable and maintainable distributed backend systems.
- Hands-on experience with Amazon DynamoDB, including:
Partition key and sort key design
Global and local secondary indexes
Query and access-pattern-based data modelling




Performance and scalability considerations
- Strong experience developing cloud-native applications using AWS services such as:
ECS
Lambda
S3
SQS
API Gateway
CloudWatch
- Experience building asynchronous, queue-based, and event-driven processing workflows.
- Experience developing scalable, secure, resilient, and highly available applications.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha, or equivalent backend testing frameworks.
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and Jenkins or equivalent CI/CD platforms.
- Experience using Git-based source control and development workflows.
- Strong understanding of application monitoring, debugging, observability, incident troubleshooting, and production-support practices.
- Good understanding of API security, authentication/authorization, error handling, resiliency, and backend performance optimisation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
