Software Tester Protocol Validation

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Software Tester / Protocol Validation Engineer with solid expertise in industrial communication protocols, network testing, and end-to-end system validation.

The role will focus primarily on validating communication protocols and embedded/networked systems. C++ is not mandatory; strong hands-on experience with protocol validation and networking is the key requirement.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and execute functional, integration, system, regression, and protocol validation test cases.
- Perform end-to-end validation of industrial communication protocols such as DNP3, SNMP, Modbus, and IEC 61850.
- Validate communication between embedded devices, network components, and software applications.
- troubleshoot communication issues.
- Analyze network packets and protocol behavior using Wireshark, tcpdump, and other network analysis tools.
- Perform protocol-level debugging, defect analysis, and root-cause investigation.
- Validate protocol compliance, interoperability, reliability, and system behavior under different scenarios.
- Develop test scenarios based on protocol specifications, technical requirements, and vendor documentation.
- Perform negative, boundary, failure, latency, and recovery testing.
- Collaborate with development, QA, system engineering,



and product teams to resolve defects.
- Maintain test cases, test plans, defect reports, and validation documentation.
- Contribute to test automation and continuous testing initiatives where applicable.

Mandatory Skills

- experience in Software Testing / QA / Protocol Validation.
- Robust hands-on experience in Protocol Testing / Protocol Validation.
- Experience with one or more of the following mandatory protocols:
- DNP3
- SNMP
- Modbus
- IEC 61850

- Strong understanding of TCP/IP and networking fundamentals.
- Experience with end-to-end communication/system validation.
- Hands-on experience with Wireshark, tcpdump, or similar network analyzers.
- Good understanding of OSI model and Layer 7/application-layer protocols.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.

Good to Have

- Experience with FTP, FTPS, SFTP, TFTP, HTTP or other communication/file-transfer protocols.
- Exposure to Docker and container-based testing.
- Experience with SCADA, industrial automation, power systems, or embedded communication systems.
- Exposure to automated protocol testing and performance/load testing.
- Knowledge of database/ODBC testing.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum development environments.
