Mainframe Batch Operations & Console Monitoring is a 24x7x365 "always-on" service responsible for the delivery and monitoring of critical batch processing and file transmission activities, including financial transactions and SLA-driven exchanges between merchants, banks, clients, payment associations, and the Federal Reserve. The team monitors and supports Mainframe environments, performs IPL activities, resolves production issues, and serves as the first point of contact for incident management. When additional expertise is required, incidents are escalated to the appropriate support teams. Operations are supported through a global "Follow the Sun" model to ensure continuous coverage and service availability.
What will you do:
- Monitor IBM z/OS production and test environments to ensure system availability and stability.
- Monitor Parallel Sysplex LPARs and respond to system alerts, WTORs/WTOs, JES resource issues, dumps, and other operational exceptions.
- Manage operator activities including initiators, service classes, JES queues, tape operations, DASD support, and device management.
- Support IPLs, system upgrades, disaster recovery exercises, and critical production incidents.
- Manage and monitor CA7 and Control-M schedules to ensure SLA adherence.
- Analyze job failures, dependencies, and scheduling issues; perform reruns, restarts, hold/release actions, and escalations.
- Coordinate with application and infrastructure teams to resolve batch processing issues.
- Monitor file transmissions using IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG), Connect: Direct (NDM), SFTP platforms, and FTPS.
- Perform Level 1 troubleshooting for failure, delayed, duplicate,
or stuck file transfers.
- Monitor file delivery SLAs, transmission status, certificates, connectivity, and service account health.
- Escalate unresolved issues to L2 support and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for resolution.
- Respond to production incidents and support service restoration within SLA targets.
- Participate in bridge calls of major Incidents.
- Provide 24x7 production support through rotational 12-hour shifts.
What you will need to have:
- Good communication and reasoning skills.
- Bachelors degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Mainframe Operations, Batch Operations, Production Control, or Infrastructure Operations.
- Strong knowledge of IBM z/OS Mainframe Operations and Console Monitoring.
- Working knowledge of JCL, TSO, ISPF, SDSF, JES2/JES3, and Syslog analysis.
- Experience supporting enterprise scheduling tools such as CA7 and/or Control-M.
- Knowledge of Managed File Transfer technologies including IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG), Connect: Direct (NDM), SFTP, and FTPS.
- Experience with incident and ticket management tools such as ServiceNow, Remedy, or equivalent.
- Solid analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
- Willingness to work in a 24x7 rotational support environment and 12-hour shifts.
