Senior Rust Systems Engineer – Embedded Proxy & Appliance
Remote, India | Direct Hire | 6+ Years Total (3+ Years Production Rust)
About Securly
Securly is a K-12 EdTech company built around one mission: keeping students secure and well, both online and off. Our platform gives schools the infrastructure to filter and monitor web traffic, flag signs of self-harm or bullying, and support student wellness — all while giving IT teams tools that hold up on real school networks, not just in a demo. That mission runs straight through this role: the edge proxy appliance is core infrastructure sitting inside thousands of school networks, and it has to work every single school day, at scale, without fail.
We're a team of roughly 330 people across Pune, the US, and the UK, working across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to build and support that platform. Engineering in Pune plays a central role in building the systems that make Securly's safety mission possible — this isn't a satellite team, it's where core infrastructure like this gets built.
The Role
We're looking for a Rust systems engineer to own core parts of the fleet-wide proxy running across thousands of on-premise appliances deployed in school networks — fleet-wide OTA updates, control-plane connectivity back to AWS, and the network stack tuning that keeps it all running reliably at scale.
Must-Haves:
3+ years hands-on production Rust in a systems or embedded context (not app/web Rust)
6+ years total engineering experience
Systems/network programming — TCP stream handling, socket programming, transparent proxying
Embedded Linux fundamentals — device drivers, kernel modules, cross-compilation, or hardware bring-up
Docker/containerization for constrained/appliance deployment
Performance testing and profiling — load testing, memory/CPU profiling, flame graph analysis
Working knowledge of AWS and IaC concepts
Strongly Preferred: Prior fleet management or IoT device fleet experience, C/C++ or Go alongside
