Reporting To : Plant Head

Job Purpose : The Head - Quality will lead the end-to-end quality function for the Bharuch laboratory-glassware manufacturing facility. The role will ensure that products consistently meet defined dimensional, volumetric, thermal, chemical, functional and visual requirements, with ownership for measurement assurance, calibration, traceability and product certification. The position will also lead to the resolution of customer quality queries and complaints, provide quality assurance for new-product development and process changes, and drive right-first-time manufacturing through robust systems, technical controls and cross-functional improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Measurement, Metrology and Product Certification

- Lead the plant's measurement and metrology function, covering volumetric calibration, dimensional measurement, physical testing and product validation.
- Ensure the accuracy, reliability and traceability of all measurements used for product acceptance and certification.
- Maintain the calibration master plan for laboratory, inspection and production measuring equipment, ensuring that no equipment is used beyond its calibration validity.
- Establish and periodically validate measurement methods, measurement uncertainty, reference standards, environmental controls and equipment acceptance criteria.
- Conduct Measurement System Analysis, Gauge R&R; studies, method correlation and capability studies for critical measurements.
- Maintain compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and applicable NABL requirements, including method validation, proficiency testing, inter-laboratory comparison, technical records and laboratory management reviews.
- Ensure accurate and timely issuance of Class A Test Certificates, Class A Batch Certificates, NABL Calibration Certificates, Bottle Batch Certificates and other customer-specific certificates.
- Maintain complete linkage between product or batch identification, inspection and calibration results, and the corresponding certificate.
- Ensure compliance with applicable ISO, DIN, ASTM, APHA, USP and customer-specific product standards, as relevant to each product category.

2. Manufacturing and Product Quality

- Establish and maintain quality plans covering incoming material, forming, annealing, printing and graduation, calibration, final inspection, packaging and dispatch.
- Define Critical-to-Quality characteristics and acceptance criteria for dimensional accuracy, volumetric tolerance, wall thickness, residual stress, thermal resistance, hydrolytic resistance, graduation durability, joint fit,



appearance and functional performance.
- Ensure effective incoming, in-process and final quality controls, including appropriate product-release, hold, rejection, deviation and concession processes.
- Use Statistical Process Control and process-capability analysis to identify variation, prevent defects and strengthen process consistency.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions for internal quality failures, rework, breakage and non-conforming products.
- Strengthen supplier quality through clear technical specifications, supplier qualification, performance review and supplier corrective action.

3. Customer Quality and Complaint Resolution

- Act as the senior technical and quality contact for customer queries relating to product specifications, tolerances, calibration, certificates, performance and product application.
- Ensure prompt acknowledgement, containment, technical investigation and closure of customer complaints within agreed service levels.
- Lead structured complaint investigations using 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone Analysis and other appropriate root-cause tools, and provide clear investigation reports to customers.
- Coordinate product traceability, sample evaluation, customer-site visits and replacement decisions in consultation with Sales, Customer Service and Operations.
- Track the effectiveness of corrective actions, analyse complaint trends and convert customer feedback into product and process improvements.
- Support responses to customer technical questionnaires, quality audits, product-approval requirements and certificate-related queries.

4. New-Product Development and Change Management

- Represent Quality in new-product development, product modification, localisation, productivity and cost-improvement projects.
- Translate customer requirements and applicable standards into measurable specifications, Critical-to-Quality characteristics and acceptance criteria.
- Participate in design reviews, technical feasibility studies, risk assessments, and Design and Process FMEAs.
- Define inspection methods, test procedures, sampling plans, certification requirements and measurement resources for new products.
- Lead quality validation of prototypes, development samples,



pilot batches and initial production, and approve release only after successful verification and documentation.
- Control changes in materials, suppliers, tooling, equipment, process parameters, packaging and specifications through a formal change-management process.
- Conduct post-launch quality reviews and stabilise product and process performance before transfer to routine production.

5. Quality Systems, Audits and Compliance

- Maintain and continually improve the plant Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 requirements.
- Maintain ISO/IEC 17025 and NABL laboratory accreditation and coordinate product certifications and customer approvals relevant to the plant portfolio.
- Lead internal, customer, certification-body and regulatory audits relating to quality, laboratory systems and product compliance.
- Ensure timely and sustainable closure of audit observations and non-conformities.
- Maintain effective control of specifications, drawings, test methods, SOPs, inspection records, certificates and batch-traceability documents.
- Support integrated management-system requirements in coordination with the respective Setting, Health, Safety and Energy functional owners.

6. Quality Leadership and Continuous Improvement

- Develop the plant quality strategy and annual improvement priorities in alignment with manufacturing and business objectives.
- Build a prevention-oriented quality culture across Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, R&D; and Customer Service.
- Develop the technical capability of Quality, Inspection and Calibration Laboratory personnel through structured training, coaching and competency assessment.
- Drive Lean, Six Sigma, mistake-proofing, automation and digitalisation initiatives in inspection, calibration, traceability and certificate generation.
- Manage the quality budget for laboratory equipment, testing, calibration, certification and capability development, and provide periodic quality-risk updates to plant leadership.

Role Authority

- Stop production or place a process on hold where there is a significant quality, measurement or compliance risk.
- Hold, reject or block dispatch of non-conforming products and authorise release after compliance has been demonstrated.
- Approve quality plans, inspection methods, laboratory procedures, product-certification controls and new-product quality clearance.
- Require corrective action from internal functions and suppliers and escalate critical product, customer or certification risks to plant leadership.
