Role Description The General Embedded Developer will design, implement, and maintain embedded software solutions for the non-safety-critical firmware layer. This role owns the firmware on the higher-level in-vehicle device (GSM module), which handles telemetry, FOTA, and remote management. The developer will participate in requirements analysis, system architecture discussions, and code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices, performance, and safety standards.

Key responsibilities:

1. Develop and maintain firmware for the GSM module — a Linux-based (Raspberry Pi-based) device responsible for telemetry forwarding, MQTT communication, and FOTA execution
2. Implement remote device provisioning and management integration (Azure IoT Hub)
3.



Maintain software/firmware versioning and inventory tracking on the device side
4. Work with the Core Automotive Embedded Developer to ensure correct data is exposed over CAN and forwarded to the cloud
5. Ensure OTA update reliability and fallback behavior
6. Interface with the backend/cloud team on data contracts and MQTT topic structure

Need to have:

1. Comfortable working on Linux-based embedded targets (the GSM module is Linux/Raspberry Pi-based)
2. Embedded firmware development — comfortable in C or C++ on constrained devices
3. Experience with GSM/cellular module firmware or similar communication-focused embedded work
4. Familiarity with MQTT protocol — message structures, QoS levels, broker interaction
5. Understanding of OTA firmware update mechanisms and reliability patterns
6. Basic understanding of CAN to be able to work with data from the VCU layer
7. Experience with Azure IoT Hub or equivalent cloud device management (AWS IoT, GCP IoT

Nice to have:

1. Familiarity with device provisioning workflows and fleet-scale firmware versioning
2. Experience with MQTT bridging between embedded device and cloud broker
3. Understanding of telemetry data pipelines — what data matters, how to structure it for cloud ingestion

Optional:

1. Background in automotive embedded systems (helpful for understanding the VCU interface)
