Technical Advisor (Marine) Location: Mumbai - Powai (full time in office)
Reporting to: Manager - Marine Technical Services
Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Technical Advisor to join our Marine Technical Services team. This role is responsible for providing specialist marine technical support and subject matter expertise to support safe, efficient, and compliant marine operations across a diverse portfolio of assets.
Working closely with clients, vessel operators, technical authorities, and industry stakeholders, you will provide guidance on marine assurance, risk management, regulatory compliance, vessel operations, newbuild projects, drydocking activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is an excellent prospect for a senior marine professional looking to apply their operational and technical expertise in a strategic advisory capacity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical advice and support on all aspects of marine operations and vessel management.
- Ensure compliance with HSSE requirements and actively support safety initiatives across the business.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of marine procedures, systems, and operational processes.
- Provide technical guidance relating to LNG, oil, chemical tanker, offshore vessel, and DP operations.
- Support the day-to-day stewardship of chartered marine assets on behalf of clients and stakeholders.
- Apply industry-standard vessel assurance and operator evaluation tools, including OCIMF programmes.
- Lead and participate in marine risk assessments, hazard identification workshops, and incident investigations.
- Support sustainability initiatives, including EEXI, CII, carbon reduction strategies, and emerging technologies.
- Evaluate new ports, terminals, floating structures, and marine business opportunities from a technical perspective.
- Support newbuild and vessel acquisition programmes, including specification reviews, plan approvals, shipyard audits, sea trials, gas trials, and vessel acceptance activities.
- Monitor and troubleshoot marine asset operating systems and provide recommendations for performance improvement.
- Ensure compliance with Flag State, Classification Society, ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other applicable regulations.
- Facilitate internal and external audits and support the timely closure of audit findings.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, vessel operators, industry bodies, and technical authorities.
- Assist in the preparation and review of marine policies, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Provide mentoring and coaching to colleagues on marine operational and technical matters.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Class 1 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency (Motor or Steam), or Class 2 Deck Certificate of Competency, or Marine degree qualification with significant experience as a Naval Architect, Classification Surveyor, Lead Auditor, or similar marine technical specialist.
- Experience as a senior officer onboard tankers, LNG carriers, FPSOs, or offshore vessels.
- Strong understanding of Classification Society, Flag State, IMO, ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, and MARPOL requirements.
- Experience conducting marine risk assessments, incident investigations, and technical reviews.
- Familiarity with OCIMF TMSA, SIRE, CDI, EBIS, SIGTTO, and vessel assurance programmes.
- Strong technical report writing and presentation skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to analyse complex operational challenges and provide practical solutions.
- FPSO experience required
Desirable Experience
- Formal Project Management qualification or training.
- Lead Auditor qualification.
- FPSO operational experience.
- Drydocking and vessel takeover experience.
- Newbuild supervision and shipyard experience.
- Experience supporting marine assurance or technical authority functions.
- Exposure to offshore support vessels, floating structures, marine terminals, or DP operations.
- Chartered Engineer or relevant professional membership.
