Job Summary
We are seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented Supplier Quality & Development Engineer – Fasteners to manage supplier quality, supplier development, product inspection, technical documentation, and pre-shipment quality activities for industrial fasteners.
The candidate will be responsible for developing, evaluating, and continuously improving fastener suppliers to ensure products meet approved drawings, specifications, applicable international standards, quality requirements, and customer expectations.
The role will involve regular interaction with suppliers, conducting/coordination of inspections and audits, reviewing technical and quality documents, supporting new product development, identifying quality risks, and driving Root Cause Analysis, Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA) and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on knowledge of industrial fasteners, manufacturing processes, inspection methods, materials, heat treatment, coatings, mechanical/chemical testing, engineering drawings, and international fastener standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supplier Development & Supplier Quality Management
- Identify, evaluate, develop, and qualify new fastener suppliers based on technical and quality requirements.
- Assess supplier capability for manufacturing, quality control, testing, inspection, traceability, and capacity.
- Conduct supplier quality audits and process assessments.
- Develop suppliers to meet JSC/customer quality requirements and approved specifications.
- Monitor supplier performance through Quality, Delivery, Responsiveness, and Continuous Improvement metrics.
- Establish and maintain supplier quality improvement plans.
- Work closely with suppliers to identify process weaknesses and implement sustainable improvements.
- Support supplier onboarding, qualification, approval, and periodic performance evaluation.
- Conduct regular supplier visits for process reviews, quality improvement, and technical discussions.
- Drive supplier corrective actions for repeated or critical quality issues.
2. Fastener Technical & Quality Inspection Perform and/or coordinate inspection of industrial fasteners including:
- Bolts
- Nuts
- Screws
- Washers
- Threaded Rods / Studs
- Anchor Fasteners
- U-Bolts
- Special / Customized Fasteners
- Other cold-forged, hot-forged, machined, and fabricated components
Verify product compliance with:
- Approved engineering drawings
- Customer specifications
- Purchase specifications
- Technical Data Sheets (TDS)
- Applicable international standards
Inspection activities shall include, as applicable:
- Dimensional inspection
- Thread inspection
- Pitch verification
- Major/minor diameter verification
- Length and head dimensions
- Surface finish
- Coating/plating inspection

The candidate should be able to understand the relationship between material, manufacturing process, heat treatment, coating, and final product performance. 4. Supplier Process Audit & Quality Improvement
- Conduct supplier process audits from raw material receipt through final packing and dispatch.
- Review manufacturing process flow and identify critical quality points.
- Verify process controls and inspection stages.
- Review control plans, inspection plans, process parameters, and quality records.
- Identify potential process risks and recommend preventive controls.
- Verify calibration and suitability of inspection/testing equipment.
- Evaluate traceability systems for raw material, heat treatment, plating, production batches, and final inspection.
- Follow up on audit observations until effective closure.
5. New Product Development & Supplier Qualification
- Support new fastener/product development activities with suppliers.
- Review drawings, specifications, BOMs, TDS, and customer requirements.
- Identify suitable manufacturing processes and supplier capabilities.
- Participate in technical discussions with suppliers during development.
- Coordinate sample development and prototype inspection.
- Review first-off / first article samples.
- Support FAI, PPAP, sample approval, and production approval activities where applicable.
- Ensure all critical dimensions and functional requirements are verified before supplier approval.
- Maintain supplier development and product approval records.
6. Testing & Laboratory Coordination
- Coordinate mechanical and chemical testing with approved laboratories/suppliers.
- Review test reports for compliance with applicable specifications and standards.
- Verify:
- Tensile test
- Proof load test
- Hardness test
- Yield strength
- Elongation
- Chemical composition
- Coating thickness
- Salt spray testing, where applicable
- Other customer-specific tests
- Identify discrepancies between test results and specified requirements.
- Coordinate retesting/investigation in case of abnormal results.
7. Technical Documentation & Quality Records Review, prepare, and maintain supplier/product quality documentation including:
- MTR / MTC
- Inspection Reports
- Mechanical Test Reports
- Chemical Test Reports
- Heat Treatment Certificates
- Plating / Coating Certificates
- Raw Material Certificates
- Certificate of Conformance (COC)
- Certificate of Compliance
- FAI / First Article Inspection Reports

Ensure all documentation is accurate, traceable, complete, and aligned with customer requirements. 8. Non-Conformance, RCA & CAPA
- Identify and document supplier/product non-conformities.
- Raise and track NCRs against suppliers.
- Coordinate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using appropriate problem-solving methodologies.
- Drive supplier corrective and preventive actions.
- Review 8D / CAPA reports for technical adequacy.
- Verify implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Monitor recurring issues and initiate preventive actions.
- Support reduction of supplier rejection, customer complaints, rework, and quality costs.
9. Pre-Shipment Inspection & Shipment Quality
- Conduct or coordinate pre-shipment inspections at supplier locations.
- Verify product quantity, dimensions, workmanship, packaging, identification, and traceability.
- Ensure approved inspection criteria are followed before dispatch.
- Verify packaging and labeling requirements.
- Review shipment-related quality documents before release.
- Ensure all quality requirements are fulfilled prior to shipment clearance.
- Coordinate with suppliers, logistics, and internal teams for timely shipment release.
10. Inspection Instruments & Measurement Strong working knowledge of inspection instruments such as:
- Vernier Caliper
- Micrometer
- Thread Plug Gauge
- Thread Ring Gauge
- Pitch Gauge
- Height Gauge

- Hardness Tester
- Coating Thickness Gauge

Candidate should understand measurement methods, instrument selection, calibration status, measurement accuracy, and interpretation of results. 11. Standards & Engineering Drawings
Good working knowledge of applicable fastener standards such as:
- ISO
- ASTM
- ASME
- DIN
- EN
- ANSI
- SAE
- IFI
- Customer-specific specifications
Ability to:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Understand dimensional tolerances.
- Identify critical characteristics.
- Interpret material and grade requirements.
- Understand thread specifications and tolerances.
- Verify coating and surface treatment requirements.
- Translate drawing/specification requirements into practical inspection criteria.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Quality Engineering, or related field.
- 2–7 years of relevant experience in supplier quality, supplier development, quality inspection, fastener manufacturing, or industrial components.
- Strong hands-on technical knowledge of industrial fasteners.
- Experience working with fastener manufacturers/suppliers will be strongly preferred.
- Good knowledge of fastener manufacturing processes and quality requirements.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and chemical testing.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Good knowledge of measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
- Experience in supplier audits, quality improvement, RCA, CAPA, and 8D.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
- Good communication and supplier coordination skills.
- Willingness to travel to supplier locations for audits, inspections, development, and quality improvement activities.
Preferred Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in Fastener Manufacturing / Fastener Trading / Industrial Components / Automotive / Construction Hardware.
- Solid supplier-facing communication and negotiation skills.
- Practical understanding of cold forging, hot forging, thread rolling, heat treatment, and plating/coating.
- Experience in supplier development and supplier qualification.
- Exposure to customer and third-party inspections.
- Experience reviewing MTC/MTR, mechanical and chemical test reports.
- Ability to independently identify quality risks and recommend technically feasible solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Willingness to work hands-on at supplier locations rather than limiting the role to documentation.
