Position: Store In-Charge
Department: Retail Sales / Store Operations
Reporting To: Retail Manager / Area Manager
Industry: Tea Retail / FMCG
Job Purpose The Store In-Charge will be responsible for managing the overall day-to-day operations of the tea retail store. The position will oversee sales, customer service, inventory, billing, cash handling, merchandising, staff management, and store maintenance.
The Store In-Charge will ensure that the store achieves its sales targets while maintaining excellent customer service, proper stock control, and the company's brand standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Store Operations
- Manage the daily operations of the retail store efficiently.
- Ensure the store is opened and closed according to company guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and overall presentation of the store.
- Ensure all store SOPs and company policies are followed.
- Coordinate with Head Office, warehouse, accounts, and other departments as required.
- Ensure adequate availability of packaging materials, stationery, and other store supplies.
2. Sales & Target Achievement
- Achieve daily, monthly, and annual sales targets.
- Drive sales through effective customer engagement and product recommendations.
- Promote the company's tea products, premium teas, gift packs, and related products.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales and average transaction value.
- Implement promotional activities, seasonal campaigns, and new product launches.
- Monitor daily sales performance and take corrective action when required.
3. Customer Service
- Welcome customers and provide a warm and professional shopping experience.
- Understand customer requirements and recommend suitable tea products.
- Explain tea varieties, flavours, origins, blends, quality, and brewing methods when required.
- Handle customer queries, complaints, returns, and exchanges professionally.
- Maintain valuable relationships with regular and premium customers.
- Collect customer feedback and communicate important feedback to management.
4. Inventory & Stock Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records for all tea products and merchandise.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate timely replenishment.
- Conduct regular physical stock counts and reconcile inventory with system records.
- Ensure proper storage of tea products under suitable conditions.
- Follow FIFO/FEFO practices wherever applicable.
- Monitor batch numbers, expiry dates, damaged products, and packaging conditions.
- Report slow-moving, damaged, expired,
or excess stock to management.
- Minimize stock discrepancies, wastage, damage, and pilferage.
5. Billing & Cash Handling
- Supervise billing and POS operations.
- Ensure all sales are billed accurately.
- Handle cash, card, UPI, and other approved payment methods.
- Maintain daily cash and payment records.
- Perform daily cash reconciliation.
- Report any cash or billing discrepancies immediately.
- Ensure proper documentation of discounts, refunds, returns, and cancelled bills.
- Follow company procedures for cash deposits and cash security.
6. Visual Merchandising
- Ensure products are displayed attractively and according to company guidelines.
- Maintain correct pricing, labels, signage, and promotional displays.
- Ensure shelves are properly stocked and products are easily accessible.
- Give appropriate visibility to premium, new, and promotional products.
- Maintain attractive displays for tea gift packs, accessories, and seasonal products.
- Ensure the store consistently reflects the company's brand image.
7. Tea Product Knowledge
- Maintain good knowledge of the company's complete tea portfolio.
- Understand different tea varieties, origins, grades, blends, flavours, and packaging.
- Explain product characteristics and brewing recommendations to customers.
- Conduct or coordinate tea sampling/tasting sessions where applicable.
- Stay updated on new products and seasonal offerings.
8. Staff Management
- Supervise and guide store employees.
- Allocate daily duties and responsibilities.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, grooming, discipline, and performance.
- Train staff on tea products, customer service, sales techniques, billing, and store procedures.
- Conduct regular team briefings and communicate sales targets.
- Address routine staff issues and escalate reliable matters to management.
9. Store Hygiene, Safety & Security
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Ensure tea products are stored safely and hygienically.
- Follow fire, electrical, security, and emergency procedures.
- Ensure proper pest-control and housekeeping standards.
- Monitor store security and prevent unauthorized access.
- Report theft, damage, accidents, or other incidents immediately.
10. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily and monthly sales reports.
- Maintain inventory, cash, attendance, and other store records.
- Monitor sales performance against targets.
- Prepare stock replenishment requirements.
- Maintain records of returns, discounts, damaged products, and wastage.
- Report customer feedback and competitor activities to management.
- Submit all required reports within the specified timelines.
Qualification
- Graduate in any discipline.
- Diploma/degree in Retail Management, Sales, Business Administration, Hospitality, or a related field will be an advantage.
- 2–5 years of experience in retail store operations, preferably in tea, FMCG, food & beverage, premium retail, or hospitality.
- Experience in independently managing a retail outlet will be preferred.

Working Conditions The Store In-Charge will work at the assigned tea retail outlet according to the store's operating hours and roster. The position may require working on weekends and public holidays based on business requirements. Accountability The Store In-Charge will be accountable for the overall performance of the assigned retail outlet, including sales, customer service, inventory, cash, staff performance, store presentation, hygiene, security, and compliance with company policies and SOPs.
