Software Engineer Intern (Backend / AI)
Supero | Remote | Internship 6 months Paid• Convertible
Role & Responsibilities
- Pick a track: Platform (Python services, connectors, access control), AI (generation pipeline, prompts, evaluations, MCP tools), or Applications (building and testing real applications on Supero).
- Own and ship a small, real production feature. Interns work on production capabilities rather than isolated training projects.
- Build backend and AI-enabled capabilities using Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Go.
- Work on data models, APIs, connectors, authorization, multi-tenancy, AI workflows, testing, debugging, and platform reliability.
- Write concise design notes, participate in engineering/design reviews, test failure scenarios, and contribute to root-cause analysis when things go wrong.
- Build realistic applications with roles, permissions, tenant boundaries, and unhappy paths, and report platform issues clearly and constructively.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Students and new graduates who have built real software. Previous internship experience or a recognizable company name on your CV is not required.
- Comfortable writing code in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Go and explaining the decisions behind it.
- Has built something beyond a classroom exercise: a side project, college system, lab tool, open-source contribution, or application used by others.
- Interested in AI-assisted software development and willing to work with LLMs, MCP, and production AI engineering practices.
- Understands, or is eager to learn, data modeling, APIs, authorization, multi-tenancy, testing, debugging, and production reliability.
- Thinks critically about their own work, can explain trade-offs and mistakes, and is willing to identify problems in the tools they use.
Perks and Advantages
- Paid internship with competitive compensation and potential conversion to a full-time role.
- Stock options for eligible hires.
- Remote opportunity with real production ownership from early in the internship.
- Direct technical mentorship and reviews with the engineers and leaders you would work with.
- No algorithm-puzzle or whiteboard-trivia interview process; evaluation focuses on real systems, engineering judgment, and work you have built.
- Every application and build submission is reviewed by a person; no automated screening decision.
About Supero Supero is an agent-native application development platform for building production-grade enterprise software from prompt to production. The platform combines full-stack application generation with data modeling, APIs, services and workflows, connectors, access control, multi-tenancy, AI capabilities, MCP-based development, testing,
and deployment.
The internship is designed around real ownership. Intern-scoped work can include platform capabilities such as connector controls, field-level access testing, AI tooling, and safeguards that catch problems in generated applications before they reach production.
Build Something on Supero - First Round For interns and new graduates, the first-round evaluation is based on something you built. You can either build a small application on Supero or submit an existing project. Both routes are scored using the same engineering criteria.
If you build on Supero, we prefer that you use MCP from your own AI editor, such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot. App Studio also works, but MCP is closest to how the platform is intended to be used.
What to Build
- Keep the scope small: approximately 3 - 5 entities, 2 roles, and at least one meaningful failure or edge case.
- Enable multi-tenancy when generating the application. It is currently a generation-time flag that defaults to off, and we evaluate whether your model survives a second tenant.
- Aim for about 90 minutes. Four hours is the hard cap; spending longer does not improve your score.
- Model something you understand: a domain you have worked in, a system that annoyed you, or another small idea you can explain confidently.
- Visual polish is not the goal. Be prepared to explain every important decision in the application.
What to Submit
- A screenshot of the application's landing page.
- The live application URL.
- Optionally, a link to the source in your own GitHub repository.
- A short explanation of what you modeled and one decision you reversed.
- Two observations about Supero itself: what you liked most and what you would improve.
What We Actually Score We evaluate whether the data model survives a second tenant, whether roles and permissions make sense, whether you handled a state with no happy path, and whether you noticed something wrong with the platform and explained it clearly. A small, defensible three-entity application with a sharp bug report can score better than a twenty-screen application that only works on the happy path.
A completed Supero build replaces the initial screening conversation and separate take-home exercise. Candidates who move forward go directly to the technical stage.
Alternative Route - Submit Something You Already Built
You may submit an existing project built with any stack, from any domain or time period, together with a short explanation of the data model and one decision you would now reverse. This route is scored using the same criteria and is not treated as a lesser option.
Hiring Process
- Step 1 - Apply / submit your build. A person reads every application. If you submit the build challenge, that is reviewed first.
- Step 2 - 30-minute conversation with the person who would manage you, focused on what you have built. This step is skipped if you submitted a Supero build.
- Step 3 - 90-minute technical session: a real problem from our backlog or a walkthrough of your build. No algorithm puzzles or whiteboard trivia.
- Step 4 - Two 45-minute conversations with people you would work with, including a design-review simulation.
- Step 5 - Founder conversation, followed by the offer decision. We tell you where you stand after each stage.
Fine Print
- You own what you build. Your intellectual property and copyright remain yours; Supero receives only the limited permission needed to review the submission as part of your application.
- Do not submit an employer's confidential information, proprietary code or data, or real personal data belonging to anyone. Use invented test data.
- Time-box the exercise: aim for 90 minutes and do not exceed four hours.
- We delete our copy of the submission and any repository access granted to us within 90 days of a final decision, or sooner on request.
- A human scores every submission; no automated screening system decides whether you move forward.
- Security testing is limited to your own project and tenants you created. Do not probe other accounts, Supero infrastructure, authentication systems, or anything you were not given permission to test. Report broader security findings to
[email protected].
- No credit card is required for the challenge account. The account includes an allowance intended to cover the exercise, and submitted URLs are intended to remain live for at least 30 days.
- Participation in the hiring process does not create an obligation for either party to hire, accept employment, or pay for a submission beyond any explicitly stated internship compensation.
