Software Engineer III, Cognos & Databricks Modernization

Purpose of the Role: Support existing Cognos reporting capabilities while helping accelerate modernization toward Databricks dashboards, scalable data pipelines, and cloud-based analytics experiences.

You will join a team focused on modernizing enterprise reporting and analytics platforms while enabling business users with scalable, data-driven solutions. You'll partner closely with software engineers, data architects, product managers, business stakeholders, and enterprise platform teams to accelerate Nike's transformation from legacy reporting technologies to contemporary cloud-based analytics platforms.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a Software Engineer III contractor with strong experience in both legacy business intelligence platforms and modern cloud data engineering technologies. This role is ideal for an engineer who can bridge traditional Cognos-based reporting solutions with next-generation analytics capabilities built on Databricks.

The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in Cognos development, SQL, and enterprise reporting while also possessing hands-on experience building scalable data pipelines, dashboards, and analytics solutions using Databricks, PySpark, and Python. You are a strong problem solver who enjoys modernizing complex data ecosystems and delivering solutions that improve business decision-making.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or analytics development.

- 3+ years of hands-on IBM Cognos development experience.

- Experience designing and developing Cognos Framework Manager models, reports, and dashboards.

- Strong SQL development and query optimization skills.





- Advanced Python development experience with hands-on PySpark and distributed data processing.

- Experience developing solutions on the Databricks Lakehouse Platform, including Databricks SQL dashboards and visualizations.

- Knowledge of dimensional modeling, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT patterns.

- Experience with source control tools such as GitHub.

- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience migrating reporting solutions from Cognos to modern cloud analytics platforms.

- Experience with Snowflake, Delta Lake, or similar cloud data platforms.

- Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure.

- Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data catalog capabilities.

- Experience supporting compliance, legal, finance, or enterprise reporting use cases.

- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as Microsoft Copilot.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

You will play a key role in supporting existing Cognos reporting solutions while helping accelerate the migration toward a modern Databricks-based analytics ecosystem. You will work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, design scalable solutions, and deliver actionable insights through modern dashboards and analytics platforms.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, enhance, and support IBM Cognos reports, dashboards, and Framework Manager models.





- Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable reporting and analytics solutions.

- Develop and optimize SQL queries for enterprise-scale datasets.

- Build and maintain data pipelines using Python, PySpark, and Databricks.

- Design and develop Databricks SQL dashboards and self-service reporting capabilities.

- Modernize legacy reporting assets by migrating Cognos solutions to cloud-native analytics platforms.

- Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and product teams to establish scalable data models and semantic layers.

- Implement data quality, validation, and performance optimization best practices.

- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and release activities.

- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while ensuring reporting reliability and performance.

- Support enterprise reporting initiatives involving compliance, operational, financial, and executive reporting requirements.

- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, documentation, and development practices.
