We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to build and evolve the core of an enterprise internal developer platform (IDP) we are co-creating with a leading UK financial services organisation.
The platform is built on Port.io and gives the client's engineering teams self-service access to golden paths — cloud landing zones, standard images, pipelines and tooling — through a curated catalogue. You will be the platform's hands-on Port.io specialist in the India team: engineering the data model, catalogue and self-service experiences, and turning the Solution Architect's designs into a working platform that developers genuinely want to use. This role forms part of the long-term engineering core of the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Port.io engineering: Build and maintain the platform's Port.io implementation — blueprints and data model, entities, relations, scorecards, self-service actions and RBAC.
- Golden paths: Engineer catalogue items end-to-end: the self-service definition, input validation, the automation it triggers and the feedback developers see.
- Catalogue quality: Implement scorecards, standards checks and catalogue health measures so the platform stays trustworthy as it grows.
- Integrations: Build integrations that keep the software catalogue accurate — ingestion from GitHub, cloud platforms, CMDB and observability tooling.
- Contribution model:
Engineer the workflows through which other engineering teams contribute capabilities to the catalogue, including approval and quality gates.
- Developer experience: Measure and improve adoption: self-service success rates, time-to-consume and developer feedback loops.
- Standards and mentoring: Uphold engineering standards through review and documentation; mentor mid-level engineers across the distributed team.
Required Experience
- 6+ years: in platform, DevOps or software engineering, of which 2+ years working on internal developer platforms or developer experience tooling.
- Developer portal experience: Hands-on experience building on Port.io or a comparable portal (Backstage, Humanitec) — data models, catalogues and self-service actions.
Direct
Port.io experience is strongly preferred.
- API-first engineering: Strong experience building against REST APIs and webhooks; solid scripting/development in TypeScript/Node.js or Python.
- CI/CD and IaC context: Good working knowledge of GitHub Actions and Terraform — enough to design catalogue items that trigger real infrastructure automation.
- Product mindset: Track record of treating platforms as products: user feedback, iteration and adoption metrics rather than ticket-driven delivery.
- Distributed collaboration: Experience in sprint-based distributed teams; explicit written and spoken English.
