Purpose of the Role
This role owns the hands-on design, development and delivery of the Over-the-Air (OTA) software update and Remote Diagnostics capabilities within Tata Motors' Connected Vehicle Platform. The engineer builds and integrates the cloud services, vehicle-side interfaces and diagnostic workflows that enable software updates, remote diagnostics, repair diagnostics and fleet health monitoring across the vehicle portfolio.
The person is accountable for end-to-end feature delivery — from campaign design and diagnostic session orchestration through cloud backend implementation, automotive protocol integration, testing and production rollout. They work closely with platform architects, vehicle E/E teams, Tier-1 suppliers and cloud engineers to deliver secure, reliable and scalable OTA and diagnostics services that meet engineering, quality and business targets.
Job Responsibilities :
OTA & Diagnostics Feature Development
- Develop OTA software update workflows (FOTA/SOTA), including campaign creation, targeting, delta packaging, rollout and rollback logic.
- Implement remote and repair diagnostics services covering diagnostic session management, DTC read/clear, ECU identification and health reporting.
- Build cloud-native backend services and APIs on AWS for update orchestration, fleet targeting and diagnostics data handling.
- Integrate SOVD-based diagnostics alongside classic UDS workflows to support next-generation service tooling.
- Develop and maintain campaign management logic, entitlement checks and pre-conditions for safe in-field updates.
Vehicle Integration & Automotive Protocols
- Integrate OTA and diagnostics services with the Telematics Control Unit (TCU) and in-vehicle ECUs over telematics interfaces.
- Implement and debug automotive diagnostic protocols — UDS, DoIP, SOVD, SOME/IP and CAN — across cloud and vehicle boundaries.
- Handle vehicle signal and service modelling, ECU addressing and update-package delivery to target controllers.
- Validate end-to-end update and diagnostic flows on vehicle test benches, HIL setups and pilot fleets.
Security, Reliability & Quality
- Implement secure update delivery using PKI, signing, mTLS and certificate management aligned to UNECE R155/R156 and ISO/SAE 21434.
- Deploy services within CI/CD pipelines, using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/CDK) and container orchestration.
- Establish monitoring,
logging and alerting for update campaigns and diagnostic sessions; drive reliability and rollback safety.
- Define and track feature KPIs — update success rate, campaign latency, diagnostic coverage — and act on regressions.
Collaboration & Process
- Work in an Agile / CI-CD-CT environment; support sprint planning with technical estimates and delivery commitments.
- Collaborate with platform architects, vehicle E/E teams and Tier-1 suppliers to align interfaces and integration timelines.
- Review technical specifications, contribute to design reviews and support resolution of field and SOP issues.
- Document designs, APIs and diagnostic workflows to engineering and ASPICE process standards.
Desired Candidate Profile
- B.E./B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical or Computer Science (Telecommunications / Automobile Engineering secondary).
- M.E./M.Tech or relevant cloud/automotive certifications desirable. AWS certification preferred
- 5–10 years total, with hands-on experience in connected car / vehicle diagnostics product development and delivery.
- Minimum 3 years working on OTA, remote diagnostics or repair diagnostics products.
OTA & Vehicle Diagnostics
Robust expertise in:
- OTA software update platforms (FOTA/SOTA) — campaign management, delta updates, rollback.
- Remote, repair and fleet diagnostics workflows.
- Diagnostic protocols — UDS, SOVD, DoIP, SOME/IP, CAN.
- TCU integration, telematics interfaces and vehicle architecture.
Cloud & Connected Vehicle Platform
Hands-on experience with:
- AWS — IoT Core, IoT FleetWise, IAM, API Gateway, Lambda, Kinesis, S3.
- MQTT / gRPC / REST for vehicle-to-cloud communication.
- Microservices and event-driven architecture; container orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Exposure to Azure / GCP an advantage.
Backend & API Development
Strong programming skills in:
- Python / Java / Go / Node.js.
- REST API design & OpenAPI specification; data modelling.
- Vehicle signals, services and vehicle-modelling solutions (COVESA VSS awareness).
Security, DevOps & Compliance
Understanding of:
- PKI, mTLS, code signing and certificate management for secure updates.
- DevSecOps practices and cloud-based software delivery; CI/CD, IaC (Terraform/CDK).
- ISO/SAE 21434, UNECE R155/R156 and in-vehicle ECU security frameworks.
- PLM, End-of-Line processes and enterprise systems (CRM, parts management) awareness.
