Purpose of the Role
Drive the development and deployment of functional fluids for Passenger Vehicle (PV) ICE and EV platforms, ensuring optimal system performance, durability, and regulatory compliance. The role encompasses functional fluid testing, benchmarking, specification definition, and end‑to‑end validation of fluids at both laboratory (fluid level) and monitor system/aggregate level (engine, transmission, e-drive, and battery thermal systems).
Collaborate cross-functionally with design, testing, CAE, and suppliers to integrate fluid performance with component and vehicle requirements, while leading technical evaluations, failure analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. The position also involves advancing innovation through adoption of next-generation fluids, supporting sustainability goals, and ensuring alignment with global standards and market-specific requirements.
Job Responsibilities :
- Development and selection of Functional Fluids for Powertrain & and Specialized Fluid battery fluid, windshield washer fluid etc.
- Benchmarking, & validation of engine, transmission, axle, coolant, brake and EV fluids.
- Developing next gen futuristic functional fluids based on Nano Technology, advanced additives , sustainable & bio fluids, specialized dielectric fluids for fast-charging EVs.
- Making organization level strategies of Extended Producer’s Responsibility policies related to oils.
- Powertrain development with lubrication and thermal management inputs.
- Failure investigation and root cause analysis related to lubrication issues.
- Build competency in automotive tribology and lubrication systems.
- Knowledge of software’s on like ANSYS Fluent/ Open FOAM,/ MATLAB would be preferred.
- Initiate and Support VAVE and cost optimization activities.
- Define fluid specifications and testing standards.
- Upgrade fluid testing methods and facilities.
- Contribute to DFMEA/DVP preparation by identifying fluid-related risks and defining mitigation strategies.
- Evaluate material compatibility (metals, elastomers, plastics, coatings) with functional fluids to prevent degradation and failures.
- Establish correlation between lab, rig, and vehicle-level performance for robust validation and faster decision-making.
- Drive digitalization initiatives such as AI-ML Projects to improve productivity and simulation-assisted fluid performance studies and data-driven fluid selection.
- Support field issue resolution by analysing warranty data, service feedback, and conducting teardown studies.
Desired candidate profile :
BE / BTech – Mechanical / Automotive / Chemical / Material Science
Experience :3-10 years
Knowledge of Functional fluids, Lubrications, materials and processes used in Powertrain applications
Design, and manufacturing application knowledge of Powertrain and vehicle systems.
Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes and materials
Knowledge of different material characterization methods, respective test standards and its relations with field performance
Development of functional fluids road map and test methods
