Role Purpose
We are looking for a technically strong, automation-minded engineer to take ownership of the deployment, support, and continuous improvement of Evolution and related enterprise web applications. This role combines deep Microsoft web-hosting expertise with a drive to reduce manual effort, improve operational reliability, and strengthen knowledge sharing across our global team.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end deployment, support, and improvement of COTS applications and related enterprise web applications across multiple environments and countries.
- Diagnose and resolve hosting issues including authentication failures, application startup failures, errors, version mismatches, and configuration problems.
- Build, configure, and maintain the Windows Server infrastructure underpinning these applications.
- Lead deployments of vendor-hosted, multi-tier, configuration-based enterprise applications, applying sound release management and upgrade practices.
- Support application database connectivity, including Oracle client and network configuration.
- Identify manual, repetitive processes and drive their automation to reduce risk and operational overhead.
- Identify scope for use of Artificial Intelligence to improve productivity and auditability
- Produce clear deployment documentation, support runbooks, and technical handovers; actively share knowledge rather than letting it concentrate in a few individuals.
- Partner closely with Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, and Application teams, and engage directly with vendors as required.
- Mentor junior team members and translate technical issues into transparent explanations for non-technical stakeholders.
Required Technical Skills
Enterprise Web Application Hosting
- Microsoft IIS, application pools, Windows Authentication/SSO, SSL certificate management
- Web application deployment and service-based/API architecture
- Troubleshooting authentication failures, startup errors, version mismatches, and configuration issues
Windows Server Administration
- Windows Server administration and feature management
- PowerShell scripting
- Service account and certificate management
- A solid understanding of how application infrastructure is built — not just how to follow existing deployment instructions
Enterprise Application Deployment
- Experience deploying vendor-hosted, multi-tier, configuration-based enterprise applications
- Familiarity with release management, upgrade processes, and deployment risk management across UAT and Production
Database & Oracle Connectivity
- Oracle client installation, TNSNAMES.ORA / SQLNET.ORA configuration, wallet configuration
- SQL script execution and schema validation
- (DBA-level expertise is not required — confidence working with application databases is sufficient.)
Automation & Infrastructure as Code
- PowerShell scripting for automation
- Infrastructure as Code principles
- Deployment automation and configuration management
- Runbook creation
- CI/CD concepts
- Desired State Configuration (DSC) or equivalent tooling
AI-Assisted Productivity
- Practical experience using AI tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude to boost day-to-day productivity — for example, accelerating scripting and automation work, drafting documentation and runbooks, and speeding up troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
The Mindset We're Looking For
Much of today's process is manual: We want someone who instinctively asks, “How do we automate this?” rather than someone who simply executes the steps as given. Someone from a DevOps mindset/experience is a big win.
Communication & Collaboration
- Produces clear deployment documentation and support runbooks
- Conducts effective technical handovers
- Communicates confidently with infrastructure teams, vendors, and non-technical stakeholders
- Proactive, approachable, and a natural knowledge-sharer
- Comfortable facilitating meetings and mentoring junior team members
- Builds trust quickly and collaborates well across global, cross-functional teams
What Success Looks Like The ideal candidate challenges manual, tribal-knowledge-driven processes constructively, documents what they know rather than holding onto it, and works openly and collaboratively rather than in isolation. They bring not just technical depth in IIS, web applications and Windows Server, but genuine curiosity about how the underlying infrastructure is built — and a bias toward automating it.
